Anne Curtis Gives Back And Does Good With Her Latest #blktravels Collector’s Edition Mini Lipsticks

But come to think of it, isn’t it also good to know that when you’re spending your hard-earned cash on something, the money is making a difference in the world? Especially today when the beauty industry has proven to be just as revolutionary, many of us feel the need to focus on the positive changes that we can make. So here at Metro.Style, we want to recognize some beauty brands that help support a good cause.
No stranger to giving back is one of today’s most successful stars, actress/host/entrepreneur Anne Curtis. In case you haven't heard yet, Anne is the founder of Dream Machine, a passion project that aims to make other people’s dreams come true. She’s also appointed as the celebrity advocate at the London Marathon held last April, which she not do only as a personal conquest, but as part of her "For the Filipino Youth" mission under UNICEF Philippine to raised funds for the war-affected children in Marawi City. And now, to add more to this gorgeous actress' list of good deeds, her makeup line, blk cosmetics is going beyond the norm of just making you look good. Anne, together with the blk cosmetics team are working towards social change by partnering with an organization like World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which protects the environment for both people and nature. Featuring fresh new colors in pocket-sized tubes, they released the #blktravels Collector’s Edition Mini Lipsticks. Here’s a look at the wonderful collection:

Metro.Style: What's the story behind blk cosmetics travel-sized lipstick sets? How did the concept come about?
Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez: This collection was actually inspired by blk fans’ wanderlust. When we launched last September 2017, we were met with overwhelming response not just locally, but also from beauty fans all over the globe. On social media, blk products—most especially the lipsticks—have been spotted at various destinations, from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, to the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan and even all the way to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai! These travel posts paved the way for the popularization of the hashtag #blktravels, as more and more blk fans gamely shared their blk hauls from wherever they are in the world: London, Swizerland, Korea, Prague, Iceland, and more.
We were very much inspired by this trend that blk users themselves pioneered so to mark the first wave of the #blktravels releases, we are launching three sets this August, each with two lipstick shades (P349 per set). Each of the six new colors has been carefully chosen by Anne to aptly represent countries that are very close to her heart: the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, and Dubai. We are also releasing limited quantities of the special 6pc collector’s edition set (P1,047).
MS: We learned that blk cosmetics is donating a portion of the proceeds to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), could you tell us more about this partnership?
JYG: blk is one of the first local brands to actively talk about promoting cruelty-free cosmetic products (we have an official cruelty-free certification from PETA) and we are proud of that fact. This is a cause that Anne personally espouses even back when we were just conceptualising the brand. We purposely chose animal icons for this collection so we can help bring awareness to the different challenges we face in our environment and wildlife today. We don’t want to stop with just claiming that we're a cruelty-free brand but we want to take an active role in supporting an organization like WWF whose mission is to protect the environment for both people and nature. A portion of the proceeds from the #blktravels collector’s edition will fund the different projects for WWF Philippines. We’re also working with them closely to see how else our team can help their organization and bring awareness to the cause.
MS: What's the biggest challenge when it comes to creating this collection?
JYG: Choosing which countries to pick first! If you look at the hashtag, you’ll see a lot of fans posting our products all over the world. We wanted our inaugural collection to be special so we wanted to showcase a diverse set of countries but we also want to choose the countries that Anne has a special connection to. We chose Philippines and Australia since both of these countries are home for her. We chose South Africa and New Zealand because she got married in NZ and she’ll go on her honeymoon in SA — what fans would be excited to know is that we’ve re-released blk best-selling bridal shades I DO (New Zealand) and MON AMOUR (South Africa) since we’ve been getting non-stop request for these shades! And lastly, we chose Dubai and Hongkong since a lot of our hardworking OFWs are based there and it’s a nice tribute for a homegrown local brand to dedicate these lippies for them.
