Editor's Pick: Kiehl's Refillables
Find out more about Kiehl's 'Future Made Better' campaign, and stock up on your favorites by trying their refill versions!
We love a good #shelfie. Those carefully curated shelves of skincare and beauty products that show off our current selection for self-care sessions are always great for the 'gram. But have you ever really thought about all the packaging (especially those made with single-use plastic) you incur over the course of your year? We beauty gals love a new beauty discovery, but sadly, we often overlook how much packaging we dispose of on a daily basis.
Here to help us manage our waste (and significantly decrease it) is Kiehl's and its Future Made Better campaign. We love ourselves a good batch of Kiehl's goodies anytime, but we're also one with them in trying to champion a better future for the planet by joining such efforts.
Now that e-commerce has significantly become part of everyone's lives, the reality is, we've got a ton of extra waste on our hands almost every day—think bubble wrap, plastic packages, tape, and more. If we don't make a conscious effort to reuse these, we're unconsciously filling up landfills with a monstrous amount of plastic. Now no one wants that.
"Sustainable packaging is the future and as an eco-minded beauty brand we look to utilize next-generation sustainable materials to lighten our carbon footprint and visually reflect our sustainable ethos", shares Cary Co, General Manager for L'Oreal Luxe and Professional Products Division. She also adds, 'we want to ensure our Kiehl’s consumers that we understand their concern for the environment, and that we are working toward more environmentally responsible solutions.”
Enter: Kiehl's Refillables. For those of you who love re-stocking on holy grail Kiehl's products, you're in for some great news! The Refillables program is now available via online and offline Kiehl's stores starting this month. Less plastic used, more formula = win win! Right now, the Refillables are available in shampoo, conditioner, shower cleanser, hand soap, and body lotion.
You'll be glad to know that all these products are still formulated with renewable and sustainable ingredients whenever possible, are 100% paraben-free and 100% vegetarian. 98% of Kiehl's products contain renewable ingredients, some of which are harvested from farms that practice regenerative agriculture. In addition to sustainable components, Kiehl's also supports 600 communities all over the world.
If you have a ton of empty Kiehl's packaging sitting around at home, join in on their Recycle and Be Rewarded program, a loyalty program that provides rewards for customers who give back their empty and used Kiehl's bottles and jars! No need to mindlessly throw them out!
Apart from that, Kiehl's still goes for their 'Green Parcel' when sending out their products, which is 100% plastic-free and biodegradable packaging for e-commerce sites we frequent, like Lazada, Shopee, and more.
In addition to all these efforts, the brand has also partnered with Save the Philippine Seas, an environmental warrior organization, to create The Earthducation Kit, a manual that aims to educate, enlighten, inspire, and empower educators to teach young kids about sustainable practices and how to create an eco-learning space. The kit includes a background on the current state of the Philippine environment, key environmental themes with recommendations on simple but effective lifestyle changes, and links to multimedia resources that educators and learners can use for each activity. For the pilot production of the Earthducation Kits, the first 50 kits will be distributed to 30 public school teachers and 20 educators (e.g., environmental educators in other NGOs, private school teachers, et al).
