Furthermore, she wants her kids to look back on memories fondly when they experience milestones in their lives. “When I started Marie France, I was not only heavy but I was taking medicine. Naka-high blood maintenance ako, eh, mag-foforty pa lang ako. So I want to live long. And I want to spend time with my kids. Also, I want to be beautiful so that they have nice, beautiful pictures. Para ‘pag when they get married, in their wedding videos, ‘pag nag-18 sila, ‘pag nilabas ‘yung photos nila nung bata sila, sabihan, ‘Ay, maganda yung mommy nila.’ I want my kids to have a mom they can be proud of. So, my kids are my biggest inspiration.”

Metro.Style: Has motherhood changed the way you look at yourself personally?
Mariel Padilla: Of course. When you’re a mom, you are the last. There’s so many other things that you consider, so many other things that you do, that you are the last priority. So, yes, it has changed my perspective, but at the same time, you don’t want to not love yourself. You need time to be able to nourish, to be able to love. You need to love yourself. So, me time is very, very important.

MS: Did it take time for you to adjust to your post-baby body?
MP: Yes. It took a long time because I gave birth in 2019, so it was right before the pandemic. When the pandemic hit, I was just at home, breastfeeding so there was no need, no pressure for me to feel like I needed to lose weight. Now when I look back at my old online videos—because I was doing a live show on my Facebook page—whenever I look back at that, sabi ko, “Oh my gosh, sobrang laki pala talaga.” So yeah, happy that that chapter is over.

MS: Did Marie France play a big role in that change?
MP: Yes. That’s why I said nga when I’m 85, 90, 100, or whatever age I reach, I’ll always remember Marie France because it played such a big role in my life. Not just my slimming journey, alam mo ‘yun, in my life.

MS: How do you treat yourself amidst your hectic life as a mom?
MP: I feel like Marie France, or when I do Facial Care [Center], that is my treat. I call it my “madam time”. Oo, feeling ko madam na madam ako kapag nagma-Marie France ako o nagfe-Facial Care Center ako. When I’m doing it during the day, feeling ko that’s my madam time.

MS: Do you feel more confident these days?
MP: Definitely! I feel more confident. And I feel happier because I can buy the clothes that I want. I feel like I look better in pictures so, yeah. It’s really for yourself. If you go to Marie France, you go for yourself. You do it for yourself. You wanna feel good, you wanna look good. I’m big on self-love.

MS: Do you have any advice for new moms who might be finding it hard to adjust to their new body?
MP: You know what? This is a really beautiful time in your life. When you’re a new mom, this is such a precious time. Focus on your baby, on what your baby needs. Enjoy it. Because it’s not going to be forever. Also, that body is not going to be forever. The big body, the postpartum body will not be forever. Of course, it will be up to you. But you can do it on your time, when you’re ready.
