A Glimpse at the Future of Hair with L’Oréal Professional

Star hair experts Min Kim and Raman Bhardwaj showcased their expertise and artistry at the L’Oréal Professional Manila Hair Show

There’s always something going on in the world of hair: cuts, colors, styles, tips and tricks, you name it. But because we regard our crowning glory as an integral part of how we express our personalities, we put as much effort into caring for it and updating it as we would the clothes in our wardrobes. When a new trend or treatment pops up, we’re definitely all ears, eager to test out whichever new innovation the industry expert have discovered.

In line with its ethos to create beauty that moves the world, L’Oréal Professional gave us a glimpse of the future of hair through its Manila Hair Show 2023. Hair experts, KOLs, and members of the media were treated to a runway show that featured the latest in haircare and styling, displayed through the prowess of L’Oréal Professional ambassadors Min Kim and Raman Bhardwaj. L’Oréal Philippines Professional Products Division General Manager Brian Duruin opened the event, sharing, “The brand is full steam ahead in its mission to elevate the salon industry and it acknowledges the need to revolutionize itself to be ready to lead the future.”

Prior to the show, we got a few minutes backstage with master colorist and French balayage educator Min Kim, who gave us the 101 on dealing with our natural hair textures in a humid climate and bending and breaking the rules of color. “It’s so humid here in the Philippines, so you’re fighting a losing battle,” she said. “You have to experiment in finding the right routine, cut, color, and products to help your hair work for you instead of against you. If you’re trying a new routine and you’re layering products, maybe do so on a weekend when you’re not going out so you have time to play. If you’re not experimenting, you’re never going to learn.”

On the subject of warm skin tone = warm hair color, cool skin tone = cool hair color, Kim believes in some wiggle room, but it all depends on how you style yourself. “If you’re the type to go natural on a day-to-day basis, then the rules do apply. But if you like to work with make-up, that’s more than enough to mark a shift. It depends on how committed you are to playing up your appearance.”

During the program, Bhardwaj and Kim also demonstrated how they applied hair techniques on the runway models. Bhardwaj worked with iNOA, L’Oréal’s new ammonia-free hair color offering, showing not just how vibrant the color deposit is, but also highlighting how important the overall salon experience—from diagnosis to after-color care—is to the client. The iNOA exhibit outside the main runway area allowed guests to learn more about these innovations, among which were the Dia Light, an acidic gloss that neutralizes undertones post-lightening and refreshes lengths after color, and the Metal Detox, a product that prevents hair breakage and color shifts.
