Scalp Detox Treatments Fit For Your Crowning Glory

Sure, your locks may look healthy like the ones you see on a hair care ad, but can you say the same for your scalp?

Here’s the thing: we’re all so busy taking care of our mane to make it shiny and chic, we often forget that we should also do the same for our roots. How are we going to achieve that flawless tress without giving our scalp a.k.a. the skin where our hair grows proper nourishment?

Whether we like it or not, traces of shampoo and conditioners are left stuck in our heads even after thoroughly washing it with water, and the worse part is it amasses over time, not to mention the dirt and pollution that our scalps have to deal with every waking minute of every day. So, do your hair a favor and give your scalp the long overdue attention it deserves.

If you’re more the resourceful one and the D.I.Y. type, just head on over to your pantry and you might just discover how you can turn your usual cooking ingredients into a scalp detoxifying treatment:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is famous for its disinfectant powers. We often hear the uses of ACV such as tooth whitener, skin toner and well, as dressings for salad. Like a Jill of all trades, ACV can also serve as a scalp treatment. Over time, our hair becomes frizzy and dull caused by higher alkaline level. Because of its high level acidity, this type of vinegar helps bring back balance into our hair pH.

All you have to do is follow these four simple steps:

  1. Mix a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water, depending on how much you want to mixture to be.
  2. After your regular shampoo and conditioner routine, pour the mixture over your hair evenly and then work it around your scalp.
  3. Let it sit for a couple of minutes.
  4. Rinse.

Olive oil + Baking Soda + Cinnamon Powder

Another home remedy that you can easily whip up is the combination of three kitchen staples: Olive oil, baking soda and cinnamon powder. This trick, however, should not be done more than once a month to avoid drying of the scalp.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a container.
  2. Part your hair in small sections.
  3. Apply the mask down each part. Make sure that every section is covered.
  4. Massage the mask into the scalp in a circular motion.
  5. Cover your hair and scalp with shower cap for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Shampoo and conditioner as normal.

Remember: the strands of hair poking out of our heads are all dead. It’s our scalp that is alive. It’s only fitting to make it a priority. Go give your scalp a break.
