The Year Of The Cut! Why 2018 Is A Big Year For Short Hair

It’s an unspoken given that Filipina beauty standards (and in fact, traditional beauty standards worldwide) favor long hair. But a recent surge in celebrities and personalities opting for shorter styles has us hopeful that 2018 could be the year of edgy makeovers. While getting shorter cuts, and even boy-ish styles, isn’t a new beauty trend (it was particularly popular for the Flappers in 1910), a lot of women are still daunted by making the change. To be fair, it is a huge commitment; we highly encourage ladies to research and consult with their hair stylist to determine what works best for them. Nevertheless, you’ll be amazed as to how one simple change, like opting for shorter hair, can make a world of difference—not just in how you look, but also how you feel.

If you need a little celebrity inspiration or pegs before taking the plunge, here’s a recap of all the stylish women who opted to sport the short look:

When Maricar officially cut her hair in 2016, people were amazed by the results. Since then, she’s been very open as to how she and her stylist worked out the best look for her, and how other women could do the same. Earlier this month, however, she added an extra edge to her hair by adding a more razor cut to the back. She’s been getting inquiries about her look since!

Steph Kienle-Gonzalez

Metro Magazine's Top 10 #MetroMostStylish lady, Steph Kienle-Gonzalez has always had short hair. But just recently, she cut it even further to a more defined pixie-cut look! Now that’s a really daring move!

Toni Gonzaga

Toni has always had long, luscious locks; in fact, she’s had many shampoo commercials in her vibrant career. But earlier this year, Toni documented how she finally “had the guts” to go for her “dream hair since high school”, and fans went wild for the results.

Kapamilya actress Sue Ramirez started out with long hair, which she eventually cut into a long bob style. But this year, she took the extra-mile and cut it even shorter. Since then, she’s noticeably switched from girl-next-door charm to a chic rocker!

Jane Oineza

Seemingly by surprise, Jane Oineza chopped her long, silky hair, and opted for a pulled-back short hairdo. Jane claims that the new look was for the upcoming drama series “Araw Gabi”, but we think this look is sensational enough to stick through for years to come!
