Barely-There Monochromatic Beauty: The Next Big Beauty Trend

You saw it first at Metrowear, now we’re giving you a heads up on what could possibly be the look for next year. Patty Ang’s ultra-desirable collection wasn’t the only statement on her show, as the models walked the runway with seemingly no makeup—just perfectly, prepped faces. But closer inspection will reveal the subtle details of the monochromatic, pink tones on the eyes, lips and cheeks; not quite your no-makeup makeup look, but a more youthful touch.

Xeng Zulueta, Patty’s key makeup artist for Metrowear, spoke of how inspiration came naturally as they imagined the Patty Ang woman. But it was also about looking ahead into the next big trend for women, which is all about the soft, muted palettes of the next season. The best part, it’s absolutely wearable for every woman—such is the Patty Ang philosophy.

“It’s easy!” shares Xeng. “For eyes, lips, and cheeks, make sure the colors are one and the same.” Xeng remarks how the blush, a peachy-pink powder from BYS Cosmetics, was also used as the eyeshadow. For lips, as much as possible use a liquid lipstick that matches the eyes and cheeks, outlining the edges for a clean finish. And finishing off with a shimmering highlight on the cheekbones.

In just five to ten minutes, a light dab on the eyes, and a generous sweep at the cheeks, following the contours of your cheekbones completes the look. Other than a quick grooming to the brows, there’s no point in being overdone, adds Xeng, in fact, a few freckles peeping out adds a sweet touch to the look. The goal is to be as natural as can be, but with a modest flush, like the darling buds of May.
