What are some beauty and style tips we can snag from this beauty queen? Women of Style host Joey Mead-King visits Laura’s home for a little makeup sesh, and here are our learnings from her.
Know your skin’s undertone
Did you know that everyone has either a warm, cool, or neutral undertone? This undertone dictates what colors or hues work best on you. Laura shares that she came into the Miss World Philippines competition knowing nothing about makeup or pageantry, but throughout her journey, she has come to learn the different techniques and hacks in making herself look pretty and presentable both on and off stage.
One of her first reminders when shopping for makeup is to know your undertone. First, check the color of your veins. If you have blueish or purplish veins, then you have a cool undertone. If you have greenish veins, you have a warm undertone. If your veins appear colorless, then you’re neutral.
Use a good foundation that matches your skintone and undertone. BYS’ all-day wear foundation comes in 5 different shades and is perfect for any kind of skin because it’s paraben-free and hypoallergenic.

Go for natural
Laura is also shaking things up a bit as a beauty queen, and is trying to stay more to her natural beauty. She says, “I wanted to change things out and didn’t want to go with that all-out glam typical beauty queen look, so I choose products on the light side. I want to go as natural as possible. It’s all about staying fresh.”
Her decision to stay natural and fresh is largely rooted to her athletic nature, as well. Before entering the beauty queen scene, Laura was very much into sports, as a sports athlete herself and then a courtside reporter. And sometimes, as they say, less is more. And by exercising a bit more caution and care in putting on your makeup, you can also channel Laura’s fresh and natural-looks.
You can also check out the BYS Nude4 eyeshadow palette to start you on that natural look.
A 5-minute day-to-night look
Laura says that it takes her more than an hour to start her makeup in the morning. But when it comes to transitioning from a day to night look, she can do it in less than 5 minutes. Her secret? One is to keep a compact palette with her, which basically has everything she needs from blush to eyeshadow to contour.
One of her favorites is the BYS Dusk Face Palette, which is an all-in-one palette that includes a mix of nine matte & metallic eyeshadows, two shimmery highlight powders, a bronzer, blush, and an eyeshadow primer. It’s everything you ever need in one small palette!
Laura also notes that what works in person may be different for what works on TV or the stage. So if she needs to transition her makeup from everyday look to night glam, all she needs to do is splash on more blush, more highlight, and a darker lipstick.
BYS has an array of different colors from their Velvet Lips liquid lipstick line. Grab a bolder color that suits you and you’re ready to go.
Be yourself
Becoming a beauty queen isn’t just about having a beautiful face. It’s about a beautiful mind, heart of goal, and depth of soul, and it takes hardwork, commitment, and discipline. For Laura, her biggest learning about her own style during her beauty queen is journey is all about staying true to herself.
“Over the year, I learned it’s about incorporating a bit of me into it. I like to stay comfortable. I think if you’re not comfortable, you won’t perform well, so you have to be comfortable so you’ll feel confident,” she says. She even remembers that she requested her gown for the Miss World Philippines pageant to not be the usual body-fitting gown because it was not something that speaks about her style. Instead, she opted for a more princess gown with a cinched waist and a trail by Mark Bumgarner.
Ultimately, Laura says, “A woman of style is someone who is confident with herself, who is independent, and free-thinking about who she is. Someone who accepts criticisms, doesn’t copy, but gives her own originality to it, her own flair.”
