Enjoy Makeup Again, With The Monochromatic Color Palette Trend!

Coming from two years of not giving makeup that much attention, we're back to exploring our kits again, and rediscovering our need to express ourselves with every lip swipe, and every blush stroke. After meticulously tending to our skin day in and day out, it's now more than ready to be the canvas for beautiful makeup trends that uplift our spirits! In this new era where masks are a given, we're grateful for the chance to show off a fully-painted face once again, in the comfort of our little social circles, as we start meeting in person.

"Without a mask, everyone is out to play and enjoy themselves using makeup to express themselves. Mask-friendly foundation and skincare is essential, or dopamine trends like using bright colors to spark joy", shares Regan Rabanal, Education Director for MAC Cosmetics APAC. And as we explore new trends, we're taking cue from #MACTREND, the very latest looks grounded in Asian culture and backed up by global data. This season, there is an undeniable return to the monochromatic color palette makeup trend, highlighting classic MAC shades via #MACTHEARTOFCOLOR looks! Glam-spiration is coming from everyone’s favourite hug-me drinks, so latte tones and tea accents and milky, creamy, chocolatey shades. Warm neutrals are softer this season, almost pale, with accents of sandy, creamy mid-tones. Go rich and opaque, with deeper cocoa highlights. CORAL: #ApricotJelly

Dewy glazes and all-over summery sheens have been trending this season. Trina Turk, Altuzarra and Adeam’s SS22’s shows were eating up the ‘Rose Burn’ look. PURPLE: #JuicyPlum

Purples are coming over all regal this season, with searches in Google Trends for ‘MAC Dark Purple Lipstick’ up 550% year-on-year. Juicy plum and ripe blackcurrant shades are already gracing 2022’s red carpets, with a whole load of glossy lacquered finishes thrown in for very good measure. These tones on lips and eyes against fresh, clean skin add an extra frisson of look-but-don’t-touch cool. Our world has definitely changed, but a lot stays the same—like our love for makeup. We may not have had many chances to experiment over the past two years, but this new era offers a fresh perspective, despite changing times. Regan Rabanal also shared that "makeup trends have evolved due to the pandemic with the impact of mask wearing and virtual meetings. People would like to look good with mask on and while working from home. People also want makeup products that have skincare ingredients, and there is new attention focused on eyes and eyebrows, including brow technology like powder brows with microblading.”
