3 Anti-Aging Myths You Need To Stop Believing Right Now

We often hear some beauty and skincare enthusiasts throw around the term “anti-aging” to describe things like fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. But today, we're here to tell you that let’s not be so “anti” about it. Aging is a natural, beautiful process, not to mention, a privilege for all of us. When we talk about preventing skin aging, what we really mean is preventing and repairing damage to the skin from too much sun exposure, smoking, and various other factors that can contribute to your skin’s health and longevity.

We can help you with this, which is why we’re here to change your perspective on anti-aging skincare. Earlier today, we attended the launch of the new Myra Ultimate, a vitamin-based skin supplement containing rich anti-oxidants that help reduce fine lines and lighten dark spots. Take it from former model, actress, and VJ Cindy Kurleto, who uses this dietary supplement and is the brand’s latest endorser. "While it is true that skin aging is inevitable, its now preventable because Myra Ultimate proves to be a wonderful companion to help address signs of aging," she said.

“As women age, their skin loses elasticity which results to the appearance of dark spots and fine lines that deepen over time,” said guest dermatologist, Dr. Winlove Mojica at the event. “Collagen production is essential for youthful-looking skin because it gives structure to our cells. But when you hit the age of 35, it begins to taper off. This, in turn, causes the skin to lose its fullness and signs of aging begin to appear.”

For more, Dr. Winlove also shared what rules we shouldn’t be living by in terms of our anti-aging skincare routine, plus, he helped us debunk some myths! Scroll to find out:

Myth #1: Moisturizers are not needed for anti-aging.

“You need a moisturizer to be part of your anti-aging skincare regimen. Aside from your usual sunscreens and night creams, you need moisturizer to even out the wrinkled skin. Dry skin can appear more wrinkled so you need moisturizers.”

Myth #2: You have to exercise your face to keep it toned.

“You’ll see on Facebook and on social media that there are some contractions that you need to buy, saying that you need to buy this for you to have a better tone. But no, that is actually the opposite. If you exercise your muscles more, you will have more lines, that’s why we, dermatologists or beauty doctors recommend injections Botolinum (Botox) toxin injection so as to relax the muscles.”

Myth #3: You should start your anti-aging regimen when you are in your 40s.

“This is very common. Some might say, “Oh, I don’t need to start on sunscreen yet or night cream yet because I’m just 20,” but this is wrong. The anti-aging process starts when you are a baby. As I’ve said, extrinsic aging is secondary to sun exposure, so you start your sun protection early, you start early with your night cream early, then you will look 10 years younger from your actual age.”
