Here Are Facts About Skin Aging That You Didn’t Know About, Plus The Exact Products You Need To Combat It

The new Céleteque DermoScience Advanced Anti-Aging range

“Aging skin doesn’t start when you’re 50 years old onwards. Our research shows that skin aging actually starts at 25 years old. And that’s when fine lines happen, your skin starts to become dry, and the effects of sun exposure start to show in your skin,” says Kathy Carag, Assistant Vice President of UL Skin Sciences, Inc. during the launch of the Céleteque DermoScience Advanced Anti-Aging range.

According to dermatology expert Dr. Heidi Chan from Dermatologist and Dermatotoxicologist - Clinical Trial Management and Testing Associates, Inc., who was invited to do a short talk during the launch, there are essentially two types of skin aging:

1. Intrinsic aging, also known as chronological aging, is genetically determined. Internal factors cause this, but “it can be exacerbated by extrinsic factors.”

2. Extrinsic aging is environmentally induced, and the most influential cause is exposure to UV light which is known to have harmful effects on the skin.

Dr. Heidi Chan talks about the different signs of aging

When you’re in your 20s, your skin may be young and radiant, but constant exposure to the sun’s harmful rays as well as pollution can trigger aging from beneath your skin. At this point, you should have what Dr. Heidi calls the “anti-pollution regimen.” It includes cleansing, toning, exfoliating, neutralizing the skin by increasing antioxidant intake, hydrating, moisturizing, and protecting the skin by creating a barrier through sunscreen.

By the time you’re in your 30s, Dr. Heidi says, “Your body’s metabolism is slowing down. The bio-energy of your skin cells slows down. Fine lines start to appear.” Using products with Vitamin D3 can help prevent the signs of aging, as this vitamin is also known “to increase serum production and decrease the size of the pores.”

When you’ve reached your 40s, visible signs of aging are inevitably seen, because aging is something that’s bound to happen, and as Dr. Heidi emphasizes, something that’s “genetically determined.” During this stage, the typical cleanse-tone-moisturize skincare routine just won’t be enough anymore. You need to address the skin problems that come with aging. Dr. Heidi suggests to “tone, apply serum with anti-aging properties, moisturize, apply sunscreen in the morning, and get regular facials and microdermabrasion treatments.”

Dr. Heidi adds, “For every problem, there’s a solution.” This is why Céleteque has decided to expand its skincare line to include anti-aging products that specifically address skin changes brought about by aging. The products from this must-have skincare line include:

AC Salvador, Céleteque Product Manager, talks about the Advanced Anti-Aging line

Anti-Wrinkle Collagen Gel (P779, 50ml). It’s packed with Hydrolyzed Collagen that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as Soya Bean Protein that makes skin soft and supple. A light textured gel that can be used day and night, it effectively minimizes fine lines and wrinkles by up to 68% within the first two weeks of use. AC Salvador, Céleteque Product Manager, says that this is her favorite product in the range—“because it’s so light, you can actually layer different other products on top of it as well, even makeup.”

Anti-Aging Pore Tightening Serum (P849, 30ml). “Skin aging actually causes your pores to be visible,” quips AC. This product is a great pre-makeup or night serum, with the triple action of Niacinamide that improves skin’s firmness and elasticity, Alpha-lipoic acid that reduces oiliness for a more refined smoother-looking visage, and Salicylic Acid that removes dead skin cells that can clog and stretch pores further.

Rejuvenating Night Cream (P899, 50ml). “No anti-aging regimen is complete without an eye cream,” AC points out. “The texture [of this product] is very rich and creamy but it’s not overly sticky.” It contains PhytoCellTec™ that protects the longevity of skin stem cells to combat skin aging, and uses the unique Aqua-Shuttle technology that deeply penetrates skin to provide intense hydration overnight. This intense nourishing cream is also enriched with Sodium Hyaluronate and Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E) that protects the skin from free radicals that prematurely age the skin.

To complement your anti-aging skincare routine, Céleteque has two more new beauty products:

Line Reducing Eye Mask (P105). This night mask helps reduce fine lines up to 89% in four weeks as it contains Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) that tightens the skin, D-Panthenol that rehydrates sensitive skin around the eyes, and Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E) that protects the skin against oxidation that causes wrinkles.

Rejuvenating Facial Mask (P165). A product that may be a nightly treat, it reduced wrinkles up to 84% with continued use in four weeks as it contains Bio-Peptides—composed of amino acids, peptides and vitamins that rejuvenate and bring back the skin's glow—and Sodium Hyaluronate, a tried-and-tested moisturizing agent for the skin.

Using skincare products to battle the signs of aging is one thing, having certain lifestyle changes is another. Dr. Heidi shares these beauty reminders to keep your skin young, healthy, and flawless:

1. Exercise regularly. “They say that having a regular exercise routine also disciplines you, your mind, and the way you think, so you can plan ahead.”

2. Do not multi-task. To lessen stress, do one task at a time.

3. Develop positive thinking. Having a positive outlook in life is key to being beautiful inside and out.

4. Quit habits that are not good for your health. Quit smoking. Limit alcohol intake. Don’t overeat.

5. Sleep. This is the time when your body repairs and your skin cells regenerate. Sleeping brings life back to dull and tired-looking skin.
