Silka, one of the leading skincare brands in the country, has just found its Miss Silka Philippines 2019 titleholder in Jaimee Nicole Angeles Manio, a 20-year-old lass from Pampanga. Twenty six candidates, each representing different provinces, all vied for the national pageant title after winning their respective regional titles in the contest’s year-long run. Now on its 12th year, the Miss Silka Philippines 2019 beauty pageant has served as an avenue to celebrate diversity among Filipina women, by providing regional and cultural representation nationally.

Newly crowned Miss Silka Philippines 2019 Jaimee Nicole has delivered a strong message on self-care during the Q&A portion. Caloy Buendia, runway walk trainer responsible for Miss Universe Catriona Gray’s signature lava walk, was tasked to ask this question: “How will you promote self-love?”

“I will promote self-love by starting it within myself. I believe that you cannot promote something without practicing it. And when you practice self-love, you start to show love and care for other people. I believe that you cannot give something that you do not have”,Jaimee Nicole shared.

The winning answer led to Jaimee’s win during the competition. She also bagged the special award for Miss Swimsuit 2019, which was held in the pre-pageant competition last November 28 at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center.

The newly crowned Miss Silka Philippines 2019 is indeed a true embodiment of beauty, self-love and empowerment, who knows how to use her influence as a beauty queen to push worthy causes.

Jaimee Nicole Angeles Manio further shares with Metro.Style her personal advocacy after her win:

“My advocacy has always been focused on education, with the message of ‘To read as one is to lead as one’. I want the youth to once again go back to basics and value the importance and power of reading. Young people often practice the social media kind of language nowadays, and so they often forget the proper usage of language and grammar. I know that my advocacy will bring back youth awareness on the importance of using the language properly,” the 20-year-old winner said.

Jaimee Nicole has been joining beauty pageants for three years now, winning titles such as Mutya ng San Fernando 2018. She cited Miss Silka Philippines 2019 as her first ever national beauty competition. “I’ve been joining pageants since I was 17 years old. This is my first national pageant, and I honestly did not expect that I will win the crown”.

For me, you can practice self-care by taking care of yourself. Do good things. Your self-care will reflect on the outside. Take care of yourself so you can share love to other people.” R&B crooner Jason Dy also performed during the event.

Beyond beauty and glamour, the Miss Silka Philippines 2019 pageant aims to serve as an inspiration to all Filipinas to value self-care, also known in Filipino as “alaga.”

"We want to focus on and remove the stigma from self-love, self-care, and independence,” said Eunice de Belen, Senior Brand Manager of Silka. “We want all Filipinas to know that self-care or “alaga sa sarili” is essential. It is not about being wrapped up in oneself, as it strengthens and enables us to fully support and take care of others (our loved ones), contribute positively to community, society, and our chosen advocacy. After all, we cannot give what we do not have. Caring or “alaga” has to start from within. Once you do that, you’ll see how much more you can give “alaga” to others” de Belen says.
