Meet The Collective, Your New Skincare Destination
Co-founded by Dominique Cojuangco and Michael Hearn, The Collective aims to create an inclusive beauty space for Filipino customers
Do you ever get overwhelmed with the sheer amount of choices available in the beauty and skincare market today? You're not alone. A lot of people feel this exact same dilemma when shopping for skincare and beauty products—leaving them alienated and confused, and uninspired to build their own routine. Thankfully, there are brands like The Collective who make it their goal to sort through the overwhelming selection out there, and cater to the customer who wants to feel understood and included.
The brainchild of founders Dominique Cojuangco and Michael Hearn, The Collective is a homegrown e-commerce skincare shop that carries a select lineup of skincare brands for every body. "I'm so excited to be able to bring in more representation in the beauty marketplace; to create a space where inclusion is at the heart of what we do", shares Dominque. Michael echoes this sentiment, sharing that "as a male, I often found it awkward to read up on skin care, or to go to a store or ask for expert advice. The Collective aims to change this for me, for you, for everyone, which I am particularly excited about."
Both of them have come from different professional backgrounds, but with this vision at hand, the marrying of the minds to create The Collective makes perfect sense. Dominique, who has a background in Fashion (she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design degree in London and graduated Magna Cum Laude at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in the US), found that beauty and skincare eventually drew her in, and became an outlet for her to unwind and release stress, amidst changing climates and workloads. Research & development is an area she's particularly savvy at, which is currently put to good use at The Collective.
Michael, on the other hand, has an Operations Director background, having been able to work for and start companies in different markets. While beauty and skincare isn't his main line of expertise, merging his skill set with that of Dominique's creates the promising launchpad for The Collective. "In a marketplace that has become confusing and overwhelming, it is refreshing to have a convenient online store with a curation of products you can trust and expect results from", Michael shares.
Their goal is to put out a limited selection of products that are categorized according to Skin State and Texture, to further help the customer zero in on what they truly need. The site also has a 'Curator' section, which aims to educate and enlighten customers about all things skincare, to further empower them to make the right choices.
Research, reliability, and representation—the three promises The Collective wants to keep. As they embark on this journey of self-discovery one skincare product at a time, we are encouraged that indeed, embracing our flaws and making them the core of what makes us special, leads us to the path of self-love amidst some of the most difficult times.
