Global Girlboss Angela Aguirre Headlines This Revolutionary Women’s Party, And Oh, How We Want To Be Invited!

It is well past midnight and the walls of the club feel like they’re about to blow open at any minute. Bass reverberates out of some of the best speakers in the world, traveling beneath the flooring and up into hundreds of jubilant humans, whose bodies explode with joy and liberation. It’s impossible, but the conductor of this celebration, perched high at his turntables, seems to make eye contact with every single person on the dance floor as a smile breaks across his face. DJ Vice knows he’s about to drop something good.

So does the ethereal beauty next to him. She’s been by his side night after night, city after city. It’s become such a pivotal part of her journey that she’s started a blog called “I’m With the Deejay.” Her name is Angela, and the year is 2004.

Throwback to the club 2008

Fast forward a decade and a half and the people on the floor are still pulsating with the same palpable joy and liberation. Power reverberates out of the speakers, as they each take turns holding space for one another. The conductor of this celebration reads the energy of the room, making eye contact and smiling with every woman that sits with her in a circle. She’s still with the deejay—they’re married now and have a beautiful daughter—but life coach Angela Aguirre headlines this revolutionary women’s party, and oh, how we want to be invited.

Angela, Eric, and Anahí

The “party” we’re referring to is the Women’s Soul Circle that Angela hosts every month, and it is the product of an expedition. After living life constantly on the move—traveling to 46 countries, climbing Africa’s highest peak, and running a mile a day for over 500 consecutive days—the next adventure to unfold was one of stillness.

Aside from music and their daughter, running, hiking, and communing
are other iterations of their love of life

“It’s a place to be seen, heard and valued by a meaningful sisterhood community that helps nurture the over-nurturers,” Angela, shares. “Where you and your story are held in approval of exactly where you are and with warmth and quality attention.”

And based on the response from women that participate in the circle, it appears that Angela’s natural ability for listening, nurturing, and cheerleading, matched with her long formed inclination for hospitality, are resonating deeply within the community she’s built in Los Angeles.

“[Angela’s] energy feels like a warm marshmallow of approval and love.”

Teaching my daughter about self-love, courage and authenticity has also taught or reminded me ways that I can continue doing that and to lead by example for her. . . I read one of her children’s books to my Women’s Soul Circle on Sunday because of the message of filling our “invisible buckets” by being kind and loving and that we can fill other’s “buckets” as well when we extend kindness to them. . . It was a simplified way, a kid’s book, to remind us (especially nurturing women) the importance of self love and prioritizing self care and pleasure in order to fill our own “buckets.” . . From a full cup you can meet the needs of others and situations with your overflow and with happiness & joy. . . I’m honored to sit in a receptive Circle of like-hearted women every month. This is a way that I fill my “bucket” and an invitation for the participants to do the same. . . It has been shared with me by multiple participants how nourishing the Women’s Soul Circle is for them. ?? . . That means so much to me! I’m overflowing with meaningful purpose to keep doing this every month. #WomensSoulCircle

“San Diego easy-going roots with a Chicago culture and soul.”

Angela’s Filipina mother was 19 when she moved from Manila to Chicago, where Angela’s grandmother was a nurse. Mom joined the navy and met an Irish and Italian man that would become Angela’s father. The military would station him in San Diego when Angela was three years old, and that’s where she would blossom into a teenager that “threw the best slumber parties.”

We are trying to trace the earliest rumblings of her makings as a life coach, and it’s leading Angela to reflect on the various influences of her childhood. Her natural love for the art of hospitality seems to be at the core of it all. “I’m keen on how to make someone feel welcomed and received,” Angela recounts, doing so not by leaning on the obvious, but by relying on her observation, empathy, and intuition.

She also recalls an ability for deep listening and nurturing at a young age, and shares that her propensity to take care of others stems from her role as older sister to an only younger brother in the wake of her parents divorce. "The survivor mentality was to make sure everyone else was okay so that no one would ask me if I was. Finding my voice and learning that my experience in situations matters as equally as everyone else has been a lifelong learning.”

Loyal companion, Mother, Sister, Friend, and Advocate — the archetypes of Angela Aguirre.

Confidence. Deep inner peace. Balance. Discipline. Self-love. Time. Healthy and loving relationships.

The things so many women struggle to achieve these days are things Angela has gracefully mastered. In the hopes of hacking her “how” we ask Angela some very girl boss questions.

Marathon Book Club

Q&A

What do you spend your most productive hours doing?

Honestly, being a mother and educating myself on parenting philosophies and practices is how I spend majority of my time. I absolutely love motherhood and these early years for my daughter are foundational and so formative that I make it a priority to be a constant loving presence for her.

Sharing a kiss with Anahí, whose middle name “Summit”
was inspired by Angela and Eric climbing the highest mountain in Africa

What would you do with a spare 30 minutes during your day?

Meditate for 10 minutes and then dance to a couple favorite songs in my kitchen while making myself a smoothie.

Why do you do what you do?

To borrow from the poet Rupi Kaur, her poem Legacy answers this for me:

I stand on the sacrifices

of a million women before me

thinking

What can I do

to make this mountain taller

so the women after me

can see farther

Angela has run a mile every day for over 500 consecutive days

What are some routines, systems, or habits that keep you performing at your best—physically, mentally, spiritually?

Having a consistent daily practice has become a daily devotion to my well being. Every single day, I make a deposit in self love by doing morning stretches, journaling, speaking out loud my commitment declarations (personal mantras) and running a mile (minimum). I’m currently over 500 days of consistently running a mile every.single.day.  A daily practice done consistently is not just something you do, it is someone you become. I look at my practice as a sustainable fuel source that helps “fill my cup” so that from my overflow (not burnout) I can meet and usually exceed, the demands that life can throw at you.

What are a few moments in your career that made you want to pinch yourself?

Every single time I sit in The Women’s Soul Circle I am in awe of how interconnected we are and feel incredibly honored to do this work. The ripple effect of transformation I witness in what these women take on, course correct or create after attending the Circles feels like I’m living a dream. One of the “soul sisters” (which is what we call each other in this community) went on a shaman guided hike to Machu Picchu, Peru. When she came back she gifted me a rose quartz stone that she carried the whole journey to the top of the mountain and told me that she carried with her everything she has learned from attending the Circles and a coaching program I offer. I will never forget the wash of warmth I felt over my whole body and my tears of happiness as I thanked her for sharing this with me. It was pure joy!

“Positivity, communication and being a campaigner and connector are strengths of mine.”

What is a quote that brings you strength or solace?

“So go ahead now. Ask Me anything. Anything. I will contrive to bring you the answer. The whole universe will I use to do this.

So be on the lookout. This book is far from My only tool. You may ask a question, then put this book down. But watch. Listen.

The words in the next song you hear. The information in the next article you read. The storyline of the next movie you watch. The chance utterance of the next person you meet. Or the whisper of the next river, the next ocean, the next breeze that caresses your ear – all these devices are Mine; all these avenues are open to Me.

I will speak to you if you listen. I will come to you if you invite Me. I will show you then that I have always been there. All ways.”

—Neale Donald Walsch, Conversations With God

When are you at your most confident?

I am most confident after a good night’s sleep and right after doing my daily practice first thing in the morning.

Did you have anyone that looked like you to look up to in the career that you wanted to pursue?

Growing up I never had anyone that looked like me to look up to so as a little girl I looked up to the Childlike Empress from Never Ending Story and would wear a pearl necklace around my head to mimic her. I’m now living out the essence of what she represented to me which is to remind humanity to let your creative spirit guide you, pursue your dreams and care for others.

If there's anything you want people to take away from your journey, what would that be?

Receive as generously as you give. It is your birthright to receive pleasure, attention, appreciation and help, especially with how well you give it out.

She’s a Pisces with a Sagittarius Moon, and has traveled to 46 countries.

Before you go, could you put us onto something you love (be it a life hack, a product, a podcast, poem, idea, person, etc.)?

One of my favorite books is The Artists Way by Julia Cameron which is much more like a workbook and the exercises shared in there called “The Morning Pages” and the weekly “Artist’s Date” have nourished me in more ways than I can measure.

My favorite feminine product that is practical and comfortable are the boyshort Thinx Period Proof Underware. I wear these to sleep-in when I’m on my cycle.

Favorite parenting book is Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne where I learned about the extraordinary power of less in a world of too much, too fast, too soon for our children.
