'Supergirl' Movie Revie

<p>If you’ve ever been 23, you’d know how hard it is to fit in and find your inner circle. It’s a troubling time filled with doubt and drama. And if, by chance, you’re a Kryptonian and your cousin is the ultimate boy scout, and you witnessed your parents plus your entire race die slowly in front of your eyes, you’d be totally messed up, and an identity crisis is probably the least of your worries.</p><p>Good thing that there’s such a thing as booze, but if you’re anything like<strong> Kara Zor-El </strong>(played by <strong>Milly Alcock</strong>)<strong></strong>, you realize soon enough that you can’t get drunk because of the galaxy’s yellow sun. Pictures</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>But just as you’re nursing your nth hangover with your nth drink, a girl with a giant sword (<a href="https://metro.style/people/2026/6/24/get-to-know-filipino-british-actress-eve-ridley-from-supergirl-0940" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>Eve Ridley</strong></a> as<strong> Rythye Marye Knoll</strong>) enters the bar looking for help because she’s on her way to avenge her family against intergalactic thugs, specifically the leader of a group of space pirates and human traffickers (<strong>Matthias Schoenaerts</strong> as <strong>Krem of the Yellow HIils</strong>), who killed her parents. And, yes, we’re just getting started.</p><p>Last year, <strong>DC Studios </strong>had quite a successful reboot with <strong><em>Superman</em></strong>. It was a breath of fresh air amid the stale recycled comic book spectacle we’ve been seeing on the big screen. Thankfully, 2026’s <strong><em>Supergirl </em></strong>lives up to the hype and is a very unique take on a female lead’s origin story.</p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="925" height="525" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YqdAEdkHrwo?si=AqX1eZSlolQPwGSD" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" spellcheck="false"></iframe><br/></div><div><br/></div><p>Make no mistake, the plot summary may sound like a teen comedy by way of <em>The Hangover,</em> but, in truth, it’s a brilliant “loose” adaptation of the acclaimed comic book miniseries <strong><em>Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow</em></strong> by <strong>Tom Kin</strong>g and <strong>Bilquis Evely</strong>. As they say, it contains multitudes, and it’s not just a drunk superhero wreaking havoc on funny-looking aliens while wearing big sunglasses.</p><p><em>Supergirl</em> is a must-watch, and that’s primarily because of <strong></strong>Milly Alcock’s nuanced take on the titular character. She goes from angsty-annoying to incredibly likeable in seconds. For decades, <em></em>Superman’s shadow has loomed over Supergirl, but finally, her Supergirl is not just a female version of Supes. She’s brooding when she needs to brood but firm when she needs to kick butt. Pictures</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>Director<strong> Craig Gillespie</strong>’<strong></strong>s decision to add some scenes with <strong>David Corenswet</strong> as Superman throughout the film also helps highlight how different the two members of the Super family are. Also, watch the scenes on “<strong>Krypton</strong>” closely, as they address one key point that was left hanging from <em>Superman</em>. Let’s just say, <strong>Luthor</strong> was kinda right.</p><p>And to address the elephant in the room, it is hard to deny that <em>Supergirl </em>hits a few of the same beats as <strong>James Gunn</strong>’s <strong><em>Guardians of the Galaxy</em></strong>. Pictures</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>But that doesn’t mean <em>Supergirl</em> is just another <em>GOTG</em> clone because, for whatever it’s worth, <em>GOTG</em> is a Marvel movie and <em>Supergirl</em> is a DC movie in every sense of the word. And if you know, you know.</p><p>So whether you’re a hardcore DC fan who’s still skeptical of the new DC movieverse or you’re just the occasional moviegoer who’s looking for a hard-hitting intergalactic space adventure, <em>Supergirl</em> is definitely a movie you shouldn’t miss. Craig Gillespie successfully adds a new chapter to the DC canon, and I can’t wait to see the rest of the rejuvenated DC Extended Universe.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong><em>Supergirl is now showing in Philippine cinemas.<br/></em></strong></div>
