Banksy Universe: The Exhibit You've Been Waiting for Is Now in BGC

The exhibit runs from May 14 to November 20, 2024 at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila!

Banksy fans, you're in for a treat for Banksy Universe has finally landed on our shores—in the heart of BGC to be exact. From May 14 to November 20, 2024, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila serves as the house of the exhibit. Banksy, the famous English graffiti artist for his provocative art, has long been pseudonymous, but his art is known well worldwide. One simply gets stopped in his or her tracks with his signature stencil graffiti that aims to evoke a stand or a message that's not to be missed.

"It's almost impossible to see Banksy's original art outside of the specific locations in which they were created. Banksy Universe | Manila 2024 is a unique opportunity to learn more about Banksy's art and explore the universality of the many piercing social, political, and domestic issues it raises", according to the M.

The M goes on to share, "While Banksy Universe | Manila 2024, like many such exhibitions in museums around the world, is not authorized or endorsed by Banksy, it will feature a significant number of works that trace the trajectory of Banksy's career, affording visitors a closer look into the themes that preoccupy him, as well as the transformative power of art."

Banksy's works started appearing stealthily in public places in the late 1990s. Major cities such as London, LA, New York, and Paris are just some of the places that have been marked by the famous artist's works.

Now open to the public for Filipinos to view and experience, the exhibit promises an immersive experience that presents the disturbing yet poetic world of the famous—and famously anonymous street artist. The exhibit starts with the artist's career trajectory starting from his rebellious roots in Bristol, progressing to his iconic works in London, Los Angeles, and New York City. The exhibit offers a comprehensive view of Banksy's impact on the street art movement, showcasing his thought-provoking pieces that address social and political issues such as inequality, injustice, capitalism, and commercialism.

And because social causes are close to Banksy's heart, Banksy Universe, the team behind the exhibit, has formed a partnership with Childhope Philippines, a non-government organization that protects and educates children in street situations. The partnership aims to give back, by creating opportunities for children to express themselves through street art just as Banksy does.
