Puccini's 'Turandot' Is Set To Wow Philippine Audiences This Month

You won't want to miss the spectacular show in store at the CCP Main Theater this December 9 and 11

Are you ready for live opera to make its grand return in Manila? We definitely are.


Giacomo Puccini’s monumental opera Turandot will be staged at the CCP Main Theatre with a gala on December 9 and a matinee on December 11. It is a live opera with the scale and spectacle that will definitely impress the Filipino and foreign audiences; from the costumes, set designs, lighting to music. 



Leading the Creative Cast of Turandot opera in Manila is Italian Director Maestro Vincenzo Grisostomi Travaglini who also directed Donizetti’s L'Elisir d' Amore and Lucia di Lammermoor at the CCP in 2017 and 2020 respectively, together with Prince Ravivaddhana Monipong Sisowath as assistant director. Maestro Valentino Favoino leads the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra along with choral ensembles of the Turandot Opera Chorus and Tiples of Mandaluyong Children's Choir. To complete the visual spectacle, Giovanni Pirandello is joining the team as lighting designer.

The role of Prince Calaf, the mystery Prince, is played by Italian tenor and acclaimed artist, Alessandro Liberatore. Korean soprano, Lilla Lee, plays Princess Turandot in the lead role. Bass Jinsu Lee plays Timur, the exiled Tartar king.


Not to be missed are Philippines’ pride talents on-stage including Soprano Rachelle Gerodias sings the role of Liu, Byeong In Park takes the part of Ping the Grand Chancellor, tenor Ervin Lumauag as Pang the Grand Administrator, and tenor Ivan Nery as Pong the Grand Intendant. Also in the cast are tenor Nomher Nival as Emperor Altoum, and baritone Greg de Leon as Mandarino. 




Members of the opera dance ensembles will come from the ranks of Alice Reyes Dance Philippines. 


Turandot is a project by presenters Cultural Center of the Philippines, Filipinas Opera Society Foundation Inc., and Rustan Group of Companies, with the Italian Embassy as major sponsor.
