Watch: ‘Limang Daan’/Important Philippine Art & Furniture

When the worlds of dance, fashion, architecture, and art collide, the outcome is simply breathtaking. Days before the live and online auction of  ‘Important Philippine Art & Furniture’ on March 13, 2021, at 2 PM at NEX Tower, Ballet Philippines, under the patronage of Salcedo Auctions, presented a beautiful tribute presentation that commemorates 500 years of cross-cultural encounters (1521-2021). The video sparks dialogue regarding the past five centuries since Spain arrived in the country, but from a Filipino-centric perspective, and is definitely a feast for the eyes.

With choreography by Joseph Phillips, featuring dancers Denise Parungao-Philips and Joseph Phillips, LIMANG DAAN was filmed in several locations—Puerta Real Gardens, Museo de Intramuros, Fort Santiago, and Salcedo Auctions. It features heritage Maria Clara attire by Patis Tesoro, contemporary collection by Gabriel Bustos Santos, and Golden South Sea Pearl Earrings by Jewelmer.

The true stars of the short presentation were a beautiful selection from Salcedo Auctions’ over 200 lots influenced of cross-cultural encounters that are to go under the gavel at this weekend’s sale. These include a massive Elmer Borlongan from the collection of Gilda Cordero-Fernando, ‘Indios Tagalos’ by Jose Honorato Lozano, ‘Flower that Bloomed in The Dead of Winter Died of Loneliness’ by Andres Barrioquinto, and Betsey Westendorp’s 1474-2018, among many other notable lots.
