Repertory Philippines’ Theater Workshops Are Going Online

They’re opening a new class on costume design, too!

For many people, this quarantine has become the time to get invested in new hobbies and maybe even learn a new thing or two: Maybe you started playing Dungeons and Dragons, or maybe you’ve made your own sourdough starter. Maybe you’ve become a plant mom, or maybe you’ve finally decided that you will pursue theater. If you’re one of the people who’s decided on the latter, then you’ll be glad to know that Repertory Philippines’ annual theater workshops are going online!

Repertory Philippines’ Workshops for the Performing Arts include Musical Theater classes that teach the basics of acting, singing and dancing—skills required for musical theater. Enrollees will be grouped by age: Kiddies (ages 4-8), Pre-Teens (ages 9-12), Teens (ages 13-16), and Adults (ages 17 and up). For students who wish to focus on honing a specialty such as voice, or dance and movement, special classes are being offered on Voice, as well as Dance and Movement, both with an emphasis on musical theater performance.

Most of all, Rep is launching a class on costume design, which is open to creatives and enthusiasts aged 16 and above. Costume Design for Children’s Theater Musicals will be taught by US-based costume designer Raven Ong, who has been responsible for many of the costumes you’ve seen on Repertory stages. He has been nominated thrice for the prestigious Gawad Buhay for Outstanding Costume Design.

Rep’s intensive online classes will run from July 6 to July 31.  The fee is Php 6,000; Php 6,000 for the special classes in Voice, as well as Dance and Movement; and Php 8,000 for the costume design class. Registering before June 8 entitles you to an early bird discount of 10%.
