Pre-show at 6 p.m.
The 2019 ABS-CBN Ball Pre-Show coverage starts at 6 p.m., where we give you everything you need and want to know behind the Ball. What’s Modern Filipiniana and how are fashion experts interpreting the dress code of the event? How is event stylist Jo Claravall re-imagining the theme and the advocacy behind the Ball to dress up the Shangri-La at the Fort? What is Bantay Edukasyon, the Bantay Bata educational program that will be the benefitting pillar of the Ball?
You can also look forward to a beautiful tribute to ABS-CBN’s 65 years in the service of the Filipino, and to the late Gina Lopez, the heart and soul of the ABS-CBN Foundation.
The pre-show will be hosted by Karylle and Robi Domingo, who will lend their insights on the heart of this year’s celebration, and express their excitement over the stars who will be attending.
“I think this is the best way to show the whole Philippines and the world what ABS-CBN is all about,” shares Karylle when asked what she’s looking forward to at the Ball. “And I think much has been said, and felt, with the passing of Ma’am Gina Lopez. And I think everyone is in it together when she says, ‘In the service of the Filipino.’ I think that really echoed in everyone's heart. And I think it will be a great night to celebrate her life.”
Robi also can’t help but express his excitement for being a part of the ABS-CBN Ball. “Beyond the glitz and the glamour, the ABS-CBN Ball really celebrates a lot of things. First of all, it celebrates the Filipino. We celebrate local, we celebrate our triumphs in the industry, and we celebrate the truest form of being a Kapamilya, which is in the service of the Filipino worldwide.”
He continues, “I’m really happy to be part of this momentous event because at the end of the day, everyone gets to smile. Not just us, as we party, as we connect with our fellow Kapamilyas, but after the day ends, after what happens inside that Ball. We’re going to be smiling still because we know that we are helping lots of people through that event. And every step, every dance move, every note, every word that happens inside that ballroom, we know that one kid will be learning a lot in school.”
Red carpet at 7 p.m.
After the hour-long pre-show, the red carpet coverage kicks off with hosts Boy Abunda, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, and Sarah Meier. The red carpet coverage will be your live and exclusive access to the stars walking in their Modern Filipiniana outfits.
While you watch, stay tuned to our social media pages @metrodotstyle on Facebook and Instagram, and on this website, www.metro.style, where we will break down our favorite looks and outfits on the red carpet.
Bianca shares that she is excited to host the red carpet coverage of the ABS-CBN Ball for the first time, saying, “I’m looking forward to having fun, talking about and seeing all the looks, especially with how they interpret Modern Filipiniana. Because our idea of Filipiniana is really the terno for women and barong for the men, but I’m sure this time everyone will come up with some sort of way to interpret kung ano ba talaga ’yung Filipino outfit para sa kanila.”
Boy will also lend his personality and insights to the ball, saying he is equally thrilled to see how the celebrities will push the envelope in terms of fashion and creativity.
“I don’t really know how it’s gonna play out, and I think that’s exciting. Not just the beauty of the Kapamilya stars, but also the versatility of the materials that are going to be used in the gowns, clothes that our stars are going to wear,” says Tito Boy.
But more than the fashion and beauty side to the red carpet, Boy also circles back to the core and heart of the upcoming 2019 ABS-CBN ball, making it one of the most special iterations in the history of this annual tradition.
“I’m proud to be part of ABS-CBN because entertainment should be considered a service. There is this misconception that you have to do public service, that you have to do outreach programs, to serve the Filipino people. I think what people have to realize is that entertaining people, making them laugh, making them assess where they are, making them happy and bringing them to a space that dissociates them from what happens to their lives everyday, I think it’s a service. Allowing them to be better people, allowing them to see themselves on screen, whether in dramatic or comedic materials, I think is service. So I’m proud to be part of this.”
