9 Valentine’s Date Ideas That Don’t Involve Getting Stuck In Traffic

It’s the most romantic day of the year, until you get stuck in EDSA for over an hour and miss your dinner reservation completely. Let’s face it: while it’s nice to have a holiday that commemorates love and relationships, February 14th is the second busiest day of the year, and getting stuck in Valentine’s night rush hour is the worst.

Save yourself (and your significant other) the frustration by skipping the holiday traffic. Here’s a list of date ideas for you and your partner:

1. Have a cookout at home.

You don’t need a reservation at a 5-star restaurant to enjoy the special occasion—cooking your special supper at home with your date is just as romantic! Master a recipe together and enjoy a candelit dinner in your own dining room.

2. Hire a private chef and invite your ‘couple friends’ over.

If you don’t have the cooking skills to back you up in Date Idea Number 1, you can always hire a private chef. Book a dinner for two, or host a double date by inviting another couple over.

Take A Chef lets you enjoy a culinary experience right inside your house. Their chefs create a menu tailored just for you—they buy the ingredients, cook in your kitchen, and serve each dish on your table. And the best part is, their team will also do the cleaning for you!

3. Book a room and go on a staycation.

Treat your partner to a romantic overnight stay at a hotel. Enjoy the comfy bed, the pool, the spa, the delicious breakfast buffet, and of course, each other!

4. Park in one area and go on a Poblacion food crawl.

Nothing spells romantic like long late-night walks while you hop from one restaurant to another. If you and your partner are in for a food crawl, we recommend you go to Poblacion—a Makati neighborhood filled with interesting hole-in-the-wall restobars. You don’t have to spend all night driving—you can literally walk all evening. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and pack an umbrella!

5. Hike a mountain and sleep under the stars.

Head out of town to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. There are plenty of mountains an hour’s drive away from Metro Manila: Rizal and Batangas provinces are home to a bunch of them. Hiking is recommended for adventurous couples, while glamping is a posh experience more laidback pairs will surely enjoy. To avoid the holiday rush, set off the night before Valentine’s.

6. Hire home service masseurs.

Unwind with your partner by enjoying a full body massage together. There are a lot of home service spas in the metro that can give you the pampering you need right at home. Don’t forget to set the mood by playing relaxing music and bringing out those fragrance oils!

7. Create art together!

Reminisce your childhood by getting artsy together. Paint on a blank canvas, practice calligraphy, build a coffee table from scratch, color in the pages of an adult coloring book, or write Valentine’s Day cards for each other!

8. Host a Netflix marathon.

You know what they say: the more, the merrier! You and your partner can host a movie night by inviting friends and family over. Bring out the popcorn and enjoy the evening watching your favorite movies.

9. Book a chopper ride!

If all else fails, book a chopper ride! It's romantic, it’s exciting, and it will surely impress your date. You and your partner can go anywhere you want while completely avoiding traffic jams. Some famous date destinations with helipads are Solaire (Parañaque), The Peninsula Manila (Makati), and Antonio’s (Tagaytay). Services at Philjets start at P52,640. Pro tip: you can even share a ride with another couple to split the cost!
