Metro Weekend Guide: October 25–27

Here’s where you can spend Halloween fun with your kids, plus: Van Gogh Alive opens!

Halloween is just around the corner, so if you’re still figuring out where to spend the weekend to bring your kids trick-or-treatin’, here a few ideas—but if you’re not one to partake in this holiday, we’ve got something for you as well!

Modern Love

Streaming on Amazon Prime

If you’re a fan of the New York Times’ hit column-slash-podcast about love and literally everything that that surrounds it, then you’ll definitely want to check out the 8-episode anthology starring Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, John Slattery, and so much more! Even if you haven’t read or listened to those tales of broken loves and happy loves and all-around modern loves, still check it anyway, because we think it’s an earnest, if a little uneven, retelling of the stories from the New York Times—nonetheless, it charms and it holds our attention, and who doesn’t want to see Dev Patel play a handsome dating app founder, as well as the equally lovely Catherine Keener alongside him?

Zombieland: Double Tap

In cinemas near you

This sequel to the 2009 cult comedy favorite does not disappoint. Ten years later, the sequel treads familiar territory, but still entertains and should warm the hearts of the fans of the first film starring Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin. A new cast member joins the gang—Set It Up and The Politician’s Zoey Deutch—and while she is admittedly a “one-note shallow character,” she delivers some of the best lines in the film, so we just end up wanting more!

Closing weekend of Sweeney Todd
