Mulberry Turns One!

In Manila’s ever-growing, fast changing, and fickle culinary landscape; chalking up a year of resounding success is, in itself, a feat you can pat yourself on the back for. Mulberry at Forbeswood, BGC has accomplished that, and righteously celebrated that milestone recently. A neighbourhood diner that prides itself on creating little tweaks to luxe comfort food dishes, Mulberry can be proud of the reputation and acclaim it has garnered in its first year. My three sons and their mother are behind Mulberry, so I could be accused of being deficient in the impartial department, but publications and award-giving entities have noticed Mulberry in its first year, and have bestowed the eatery with honours and citations.

Some may gripe about the limited menu, but while that is certainly true - more a function of the establishment’s limited space; what it does, it does very well. Whether it’s the lamb burgers, the Prawn Linguini with Crabfat, their White Paella, or their salmon; patrons often find and gravitate to their favourites. And like best friends who you know are dependable, and will always do you right; the Mulberry menu is one you can return to, and you know what you’ll be getting. The logical extension of Trish Panlilio’s catering business, nawwTyskitchen, and her Gourmand Market, Mulberry has become a daily showcase of the kind of food that emanates from her kitchen.

Contributing to the success of Mulberry has been its tasteful interiors. As some friends have commented, even the Rest Room is the sort of place you never want to leave. The clubby atmosphere, where one is likely to bump into friends, is another thing going for Mulberry—such that for some, it’s become a home away from home. They recently launched a Happy Hour, and I hear reports from my boys, that a new, expanded menu is on its way.

If you’re one of the few who hasn’t discovered Mulberry, I actually envy you—sitting down, ordering, and taking that first bite. At Mulberry, one isn’t the loneliest number.
