10 Things You Would Want To Bring Home From The Omnibus Manila Pop-Up

Filipino design advocate and former editor Devi de Veyra serves up an eclectic range of fashion, art and home accessories with a bit of an edge in the ongoing Omnibus MNL pop-up show in Pasay's always romantic old Manila compound Artellano.

The edge is of course supplied by the selection of creatives and artists she brought in: among them Vivien Ramsey, artists Lara Celeste Diaz, Junjun Sta. Ana and Dex Fernandez, Jinggoy Buensuceso, designer Joey Samson, the queen of beaded footwear Zarah Juan, Tata Montilla, the kids from Escolta's Hub Make Lab, and a few personalities from the club culture era of the late 90s who remain hipper than you and me (we're looking at you, Kiko Escora).

Ignacio Loyola, the prize-winning designer, has a room devoted entirely to his work. Loyola, now a successful designer based in Dubai, flew especially for the four-day occasion, bringing with him some showstopping gowns made out of rubber bands. He makes them himself as if working on a sculpture, assembling a creation on a mannequin and letting both material and inspiration take the lead. They are not exactly the kinds of dresses she makes for her Dubai clientele--the rubber band gowns and bags are more to please the more avant garde part of his artistic side.

The opening day was quite a party, with Cecile Zamora as DJ, and with Manila's hip kids, the art crowd, and design purveyors just happy to see each other on probably one of March's last pleasantly cool evenings. The mix of guests and talents pretty much enhanced de Veyra's whole philosophy for the four-day affair, and for Omnibus MNL itself: only if there's free expression and creative collaborations can we expect that elusive element of surprise.

Here are the 10 things we think you might want to bring home from the Omnibus MNL pop up ongoing til tomorrow, March 11, at 2680 FB Harrison Street, Pasay City (inside The Henry Hotel). For more information, go to
