SM Woman’s Summer In Time

Sure, pink flamingoes may not be known for their flight capabilities; but thanks to SM Woman’s 2018 Spring/Summer Coco Cabana Collection, flamingoes were soaring on the runway and catwalk that the 3rd floor atrium walkways of SM Makati were converted into for one special evening. With this season’s campaign entitled What Women Want, SM Woman collaborated with SM Accessories, SM Shoes and SM Beauty to bring us a refreshing fashion show that capitalized on the proposition that SM Woman is there for you this summer (and always), no matter what age or body shape one may be.

This diversity in body shape was exemplified in sterling concrete form, as beyond the expected retinue of skinny model size ladies and special guest, Miss Intercontinental 2017 First Runner-Up Katarina Rodriguez, we also had such SM Plus Size personalities as Bituin Escalante, Radha Cuadrado, Frenchie Dy, Cai Cortez, Rownita, Ruby Rodriguez, etc. also strutting their stuff on the catwalk. And without a doubt, for being fierce and gutsy, these Plus Size divas practically stole the show.

And I say ‘practically’ because no one was going to steal the limelight from the Coco Cabana Collection itself. With great variety and diversity, the collection boasts of outfits for the Summer that are not only current and fashion-forward; but also dependable in terms of durability, thread count, and colour fastness. People have often closed their minds about SM and fashion; believing the two don’t really mix. But one young woman behind us was heard to exclaim ‘Talaga bang SM yan? Ang ganda!’ (Are these clothes all really SM? They’re beautiful!).

And it’s this kind of reaction from the uninitiated that Jo Dy Juanco, who heads SM Woman, relishes. She’s really made it her mission to ‘Up the Game’ of SM Woman while keeping price points in the very affordable range. Pronto fashion has been the rage all over the world for more than a decade now; and while these foreign brands have established a presence here in the Philippines, it’s good to know that a mainstream, homegrown brand like SM Woman can play their game toe to toe.
