Award-Winning Korean Films Coming To Netflix This May
Bong Joon Ho's 'Parasite' and Ryoo Seung-wan's 'Escape from Mogadishu' will start streaming on the service in the coming weeks
Guess what, film buffs! The movie line-up on Netflix this month just got a whole lot more exciting with the announcement of two award-winning Korean titles arriving in the coming weeks.
These two titles are Parasite, which won Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards two years ago, and Escape from Mogadishu, which just took home the title of Best Film at last week's 58th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Arriving on the streaming service platform this May 13, Friday, is Parasite. Directed by Bong Joon Ho, the critically-acclaimed film follows the crafty members of a destitute family as they insinuate themselves into the household of a wealthy couple living in oblivious privilege.
It stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Lee Jung-eun, Chang Hyae-jin, Park Myung-hoon, Jung Ziso, and Jung Hyeon-jun. There's a special appearance by Park Seo-joon, too!
Escape from Mogadishu
Fresh from winning several awards at the recent 58th Baeksang Arts Awards is Escape from Mogadishu, which stars Kim Yun-seok, Jo In-sung, Huh Joon-ho, Koo Kyo-hwan, and more. The film centers on the conflict between rival visiting diplomats from North Korean and South Korea as they are caught in the crosshairs of a civil war in Mogadishu, Somalia. With no help from the government, they must turn to one another to engineer their escapes.
Apart from winning the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Film and Best Technical Achievement, Escape from Mogadishu also took home the Baeksang Arts Award Daesang (Grand Prize) in Film. Last year, the film was also awarded Best Film, Best Art Direction, and Best Director (Ryoo Seung-wan) at the Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2021.
Escape from Mogadishu arrives on Netflix on May 27, Friday.
