‘Derry Girls’ Season 3 Will Be Its Last
“It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series,” says writer and creator Lisa McGee
Say goodbye to the Derry Girls—yes, that includes you, James. Writer and creator of the hit Irish series Lisa McGee confirmed on Twitter that its third season will be its last.
“It was always the plan to say goodbye after three series,” she wrote. “Derry Girls is a coming of age story; following five ridiculous teenagers as they slowly… very slowly… start to become adults, while around them the place they call home starts to change too.”

The show follows Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Orla (Louisa Harland), and James (Dylan Llewellyn) during the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the late 90s. They get into all sorts of absurd shenanigans as they discover who they are during a time of turmoil—and, ultimately, hope.
In July, Nicola confirmed that filming will take place in late 2021.
Derry Girls is currently streaming on Netflix.
