Who says The Oscars were getting boring?

The 94th Academy Awards held last Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood sure was quite an eventful, star-studded evening—full of moments that have social media abuzz. Family drama CODA made history, for one, becoming the first film from a major streaming service to win Best Picture. This win is just a testament to the major shifts taking place in Hollywood, a huge move in the way movies are made and distributed.

The barrier-breaking win was significant in many other ways, too; being able to represent the deaf and disabled community in its story, and to do so in such a sensitive and novel way. The Apple TV+ film also won Best Adapted Screenplay and a historic Best Supporting Actor win for Troy Kotsur, 53—the first deaf man to be nominated for an Academy Award and the second deaf actor to win.

Another big winner during the 94th Oscars was Dune, with six victories in technical categories such as sound, editing, and score. Jessica Chastain won Best Actress in a Leading Role for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, while Will Smith took home Best Actor in a Leading Role for his amazing performance as Richard Williams in King Richard.
