5 Reasons to Watch JoshLia’s ‘Unhappy For You’
The real-life exes' chemistry shines, as they reunite on the big screen to show a more grown-up version of handling relationships
Is it possible to move on? Star Cinema’s latest film, Un/Happy for You, just might have the answer. Here, former on-screen (and off-screen) beaus Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto pair up once more to breathe life into their new story.
Directed by Petersen Vargas, the movie follows the story of exes Juancho (Joshua Garcia) and Zy (Julia Barretto) as they cross paths two years after their tumultuous breakup. Even after achieving their own respective professional milestones, there’s still the question of whether or not their longstanding feelings still exist.
Metro.Style was invited to the movie’s red carpet premiere night, where fans gathered to show their support for the duo. It’s safe to say that the cheers and laughter throughout the screening only show just how the film managed to capture the hearts of viewers in a profound way.
Here are some reasons why romance fans shouldn’t miss this heartwarming movie:
The undeniable chemistry of Joshlia
Despite not being together in real life, the chemistry between Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto is undeniable and palpable. The back and forth dialogue in several scenes brought out a new kind of rhythm between both actors. They also managed to showcase the different stages of the relationship—from meet-cute to breakup—in a seamless way.
The relatability of growing up
The realities of life can put a strain on relationships, and Un/Happy for You features different perspectives on the matter. Going through adulthood woes is such a universal experience for anyone. And there’s no doubt that keeping a relationship afloat is a challenge in itself, especially when changing dreams and distance can rival even the most romantic of feelings. It’s easy to relate to the characters of the film and the changes they go through in the story.
The gorgeous cinematography
Each scene appears in vivid colors and hues that concretize each emotion. From the heavier scenes to the more intimate moments of the movie, each frame appears to hold more weight due to the creative choices made. The province of Bicol is also exhibited in a way that makes any avid traveler want to see the picturesque area.
The showcasing of Bicolano culture through food
Speaking of Bicol, the food of the beloved province takes centerstage. It’s only apt as Joshua Garcia’s character is a budding chef. Lovers of Bicolano food will definitely enjoy the cinematic cuisine.
The music of Moira
When it comes to heart-wrenching love songs, only a few do it better than Moira dela Torre. Her hit song "Paubaya" takes the story right to the feels. It brings the emotions to a deeper level as it plays throughout the film.
