Watch the Trailer of Joel Coen’s 'The Tragedy of Macbeth'

The new A24 film stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand

In 2019, Deadline announced that Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand are starring in a new film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, directed by Joel Coen. The film, according to Vulture, marked Coen’s first film without his brother and “writing/producing/directing partner,” Ethan Coen.

Two years later, the first trailer of the Shakespearean tragedy is finally out, set in black-and-white, with cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel, whose work includes Amélie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Inside Llewelyn Davis, and more. The film is set to premiere at the 2021 New York Film Festival this coming Friday, September 24.

In case you need a refresher, Macbeth follows a Scottish lord who is convinced by three witches that he is destined to become the king of Scotland; he and his wife set out to try and make that happen.
