Watch Kristen Stewart in the Full Trailer of ‘Spencer’

Her portrayal of the People’s Princess is one of the most highly anticipated performances of the year

Over the past decade, there has been only one notable portrayal of Princess Diana on film. In 2013, Naomi Watts starred as the People’s Princess in Oliver Hirschbiegel’s film aptly called Diana, but it was so negatively received that Watts’ performance faded into obscurity.

A fresh face stepped into the role in 2020: newcomer Emma Corrin brought a certain kind of vibrance and brightness to her portrayal of Diana in The Crown, mixing vulnerability with pluckiness. (In the upcoming fifth season, Elizabeth Debicki is set to essay the princess throughout her divorce with Prince Charles, until the end of her life.)

This year, Kristen Stewart is making Diana all hers as she dances, sobs, and traipses through palace hallways in Pablo Larraín’s upcoming biopic, Spencer. Stewart’s portrayal of the late royal and humanitarian is one of the most highly anticipated performances of the year, and we’re readying ourselves with the release of the film’s full-length trailer.

So far, the film has received critical acclaim, with particular praise for Stewart’s portrayal of the princess. What do we think? (I, personally, am swept away.)

Spencer is set to be released in theatres on November 5, and also stars Timothy Spall, Sean Harris, and Sally Hawkins.
