Every now and then, there comes a K-drama that will make you laugh, cry, smile, and then leave you speechless. Once you’ve finished it, you somehow can’t stop asking questions. How are the characters doing? Was it really the end? What happened after that finale? Why am I so attached to this drama and the characters after spending just one season with them? Is this all there is to life?
But seriously, some K-dramas hit so deeply in one’s mind and heart enough to send fans passionately clamoring for season two. The production, the cinematography, the characters, the writing—everything, really—comes together so beautifully that it would be a shame to not see a second season come to light, bringing all the things we loved so much about the shows to life once more.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016)
If you haven’t watched this series, can you even call yourself a K-drama fan? Kidding! Perhaps one of the most requested K-dramas to be brought back for season 2, “Scarlet Heart” introduced us to Hae Soo (IU) and the seven handsome princes of Goryeo and viewers, especially the international ones, have fallen hard for them.

With Hae Soo’s happy ending appearing to be completely elusive, fans hoped it couldn’t possibly just end there. Especially when this show has been adapted from a Chinese drama that actually aired with a season 2 of its own. Viewers couldn’t help but wonder: “What is life beyond Goryeo?”

Hotel Del Luna (2019)
Actress Lee Ji Eun (IU) has a knack for choosing projects that leave viewers wanting for more. 'Hotel Del Luna' CEO Jang Man Wol and the hotel staff may have finally found the peace that enabled them to cross over to the afterlife but the human hotel manager Goo Chan Seong was heartbreakingly left behind.

It is interesting to find out what life adventures Chan Seong faced after his 'Hotel Del Luna' employment. More importantly, the finale’s end credits introduced us to a new hotel, 'Hotel Blue Moon', that got us all curious about the history of the new owner, masterfully played by actor Kim Soo Hyun in a cameo.

Vagabond (2019)
One thrilling and suspenseful ride, Vagabond is ably led by its charismatic lead stars Lee Seung Gi and Bae Suzy. The story of Cha Dal Gun (Lee Seung Gi) and Go Hae Ri (Bae Suzy) took us from a plane crash and on to an action-adventure hunt packed with conspiracies and a romance between the two leads. Corruption and conspiracy were revealed. The two, however, were separated by circumstances.

Memories of the Alhambra (2018)
Before embarking on 'Crash Landing On You' as a North Korean soldier, Hyun Bin was romancing Park Shin Hye in this drama. The drama centered on a company CEO and a hostel owner who encountered mysterious events brought about by an augmented reality game.

Hwayugi (2017)
This fantasy drama is about monkey god Son Oh Gong, played by Lee Seung Gi, and an ordinary woman named Jin Su Mi, played by Oh Yeon So. Son Oh Gong made a promise to a little girl he met years ago. The girl grew up to be Jin Su Mi who seeks his help especially since she’s destined to save the world.

Signal (2016)
This series is one of the most engaging K-Dramas that is not about romance at all. A crime-fantasy drama, ‘Signal’ centered on a mysterious walkie-talkie that allows a detective in the ‘80s to communicate with a cold case profiler from 2015. Together, they try to solve cold cases and crimes.

Arthdal Chronicles (2019)
The big-budgeted fantasy drama ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ was headlined by top-notch stars Song Joong Ki, Kim Ji Won and Jang Dong Gun. Set in a mythical kingdom in ancient times, ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ sees the struggle for power at the center of the story.

While it was a rollercoaster ride of three-part season 1, viewers of the show hotly anticipated the great battle between the forces of good and evil but ended up with a major cliffhanger instead. Thankfully, the team behind the show confirmed that season 2 is in the works with production starting in the second half of 2020.

Don’t lose heart. Some of the recent Korean dramas actually came out with second seasons —’Love Alarm’ and ‘Welcome to Waikiki’ among them—so there’s always a great chance for the shows listed above to come through with a new season and put an end to viewers’ yearning for closure.
