A New Version of the Classic ‘Badjao’ Will Premiere on CinemaOne This Sunday

The film was part of the Sagip Pelikula efforts of the ABS-CBN Film Restoration Unit

A new scanned version of the 1957 Filipino classic Badjao will premiere for the very first time on television this Sunday, September 6 at 9 p.m. on Cinema One.


The classic, directed by National Artist for Theater and Film Lamberto V. Avellana, was part of the recent Sagip Pelikula efforts of the ABS-CBN Film Restoration Unit.

Badjao tells the story of Hassan, the son of the chief of the Badjaos, who meets and falls in love with Bala-amai, the niece of the chief of the Moros. It won Best Direction for Lamberto Avellana, National Artist for Theater and Film, along with the Best Story, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography awards in the 1957 Southeast Asia Film Festival held in Japan. It also received the International Prestige Award of Merit from the 1957 FAMAS Awards.


Badjao airs this Sunday, September 6 at 9 p.m. on Cinema One.
