All The Free Movies (and Musical!) You Can Watch During This Time of Self-Isolation
Several creators have released their art for free
Classes are suspended, employees are working from home, malls are closed, theatre shows are cancelled. Welcome to Day One of Luzon’s month-long enhanced community quarantine.
While Metro Manila—as well as a few other cities outside of Luzon—has been on community quarantine since Sunday, March 15, stricter rules upon stepping outside have been imposed as the government scrambles to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Filipino citizens have been mandated to stay indoors and practice strict social distancing in an effort to flatten the curve, as confirmed cases in the country continue to rise. With that, several creators have released their art to be consumed for free to encourage people to stay at home. Here’s a rundown of the movies—and one musical!—that you can watch to get you through this time of quarantine.

1. That Thing Called Tadhana, Sa North Diversion Road, and more from CinemaOne Originals
CinemaOne Originals has made 11 of their movies available for streaming for free on YouTube. Their catalogue includes the beloved romcom classic That Thing Called Tadhana; the stage-to-screen adaptation of Tony Perez’s Sa North Diversion Road; and Rome and Juliet, a sappy, sapphic film starring Mylene Dizon and Andrea del Rosario. Head on over to this playlist to binge.
2. Films from the production studio behind Heneral Luna and I’m Drunk, I Love You
Last week, TBA Studios—the production outlet behind Goyo, ang Batang Heneral and I’m Drunk, I Love You—uploaded eight of their films, from K’na the Dreamweaver to Bliss, starring Iza Calzado. Check out this playlist to watch the movies.

3. Ghost Quartet by Dave Malloy
If you’re a musical theatre fan, you’ve probably heard by now that Dave Malloy, creator of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, uploaded a full-length pro-shot of Ghost Quartet, his 2014 song cycle “about love, death, and whiskey.” The full cast recording is available to stream on Spotify if you want to check it out, and once you’re ready, head over to Malloy’s YouTube channel and treat yourself to this quirky little show.
4. 1,000+ others on iWant
iWant, whose catalogue is already generally free save for newly-released or more premium content, is offering over 1,000 movies to stream for free, for a limited time only. Their well-stocked library of films includes Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz’s Miggy and Laida trilogy; Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s filmography, from She’s Dating the Gangster to The Hows of Us; restored classics such as Oro Plata Mata and Himala; and so much more.
