June Highlights on Netflix

What’s arriving, what’s leaving, and what you need to add to your list!

As we hit the third month of quarantine (but really, who’s counting?—) we’ve watched a lot of great TV and film. June releases on Netflix will be no different, with the streaming service adding a lot of new options for subscribers. From award-winning original series to popular classics, the long list of films and TV shows has something for everyone! Metro.Style gives you the highlights from Netflix’s June releases, as well as complete lists of what’s coming and what’s leaving this month.

Headlining the Netflix arrivals are Oscar-winning films such as Martin Scorsese’s West Side Story and Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird. Spike Lee also releases his first film for Netflix—Da 5 Bloods—and sees a couple of his classics including Inside Man and The Miracle at St. Anna joining the streaming service, as well.

June sees Netflix finally uncovering the mysterious Eurovision-themed project starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams (with a Demi Lovato cameo!) If makeovers are your thing, you’ll be delighted to hear that Queer Eye is back with a fifth season that takes the Fab Five all over the City of Brotherly Love. Netflix Original series The Politician and Marcella return with new seasons. Also back, but for their last runs, are 13 Reasons Why and Fuller House.

Fans of Hannibal Lector see the classic movie The Silence of the Lambs, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, and the TV series Hannibal arriving in June. Other classic movies arriving include Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Bad News Bears, and Casper.

June is looking really good so far, wouldn’t you say? Here's what we're tuning into:

The Politician (Season 2)

Payton for President! Okay, now that’s out of the way. Producer Ryan Murphy’s first series created for Netflix, The Politician’s first season was full of melodrama, plot twists, and cocky teenagers. The second season of the show drops in Netflix mid-June and it seems to have grown up with its characters. Fans can look forward to the bulk of its cast returning—Ben Platt, Lucy Boynton, Zoey Deutch, Laura Dreyfuss, Bette Middler, to name a few—and a change of scenery from So-Cal to New York.

Da 5 Bloods

Oscar winner Spike Lee directs and co-wrote this explosive story of war and brotherhood. Starring Delroy Lindo and Chadwick Boseman, Da 5 Bloods highlights the experience of war vets who risked their lives fighting for their country, only to come back and be treated as second-class citizens. We're excited to see what Lee has been up to since watching the BlacKkKlansman.

How To Get Away with Murder (Season 6)

The Shondaland creation starring Viola Davis playing Annalise Keating has come to a close after six years. Afterall, Annalise and “The Keating Five” can get away with murder only for so long. If you’re like us, we’ve been at the edge of our seats for the past five seasons, and can’t wait to binge and discover the final story from this award-winning legal thriller series.

13 Reasons Why (Season 4)

Since its debut in 2017, this Netflix Original series has been explosive and controversial—not one to shy away from graphic content of suicide and sexual assault. Fresh and impactful, 13 Reasons Why has gained a captive audience that looks forward to this series ender. If there’s anything we expect from this season, it’s going to be one wild ride.

Jo Koy: In His Elements

Comedian Jo Koy is back with another Netflix Comedy Special—this time, bringing the laughs and beats to Manila. He spotlights local culture in a one-of-a-kind show which also features Filipino American comedians, DJs and B-boys.

Pose (Season 2)

Set in the 1980s, this critically-lauded show explores the juxtaposition of several segments of society in New York—namely, the ball culture, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the downton social and literary scene. Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Steven Canals, the world of Pose is brought to life by stars Billy Porter, Mj Rodriguez, Indya Moore, and Dominique Jackson. With so much to love about this show, we’ve already queued it up on our lists, and we’re sure you have, too!

Fuller House (Season 5)

The spin-off of the hit 90s sitcom Full House, Fuller House is about the Tanner family’s adventures continue as DJ Tanner-Fuller shares a home with her sister Stephanie and friend Kimmy, both of whom help raise her three boys. The second half of the fifth and final season drops on June 2, with the final batch of episodes focusing on a triple wedding and a bittersweet ending.

The Last Days of American Crime (Netflix Original)

A bank robber joins a plot to commit one final, historic heist before the government turns on a mind-altering signal that will put an end to all criminal behavior. Directed by Olivier Megaton and starring Edgar Ramirez, Michael Pitt, and Anna Brewster, the story is set in the not-too-distant future, making for a good watch. The Last Days of American Crime is based on the 2009 graphic novel by Rick Remender and Greg Tocchini of the same name.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Original songs, multiple countries, one competition, one chance to be a star. Two small-town singers, played by Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, chase their pop star dreams at this global music competition where high stakes, scheming rivals, and onstage mishaps test their bond.

Queer Eye (Season 5)

It may just be what the world needs right now: the Fab Five’s biggest season yet! This season has Jonathan Van Ness, Bobby Berk, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, and Tan France back along with ten new heroes and life-changing makeovers. The Fab Five venture to the Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, and judging from the trailer? It’s looking to be one really emotional, feel-good TV.
