It follows Maverick after more than 30 years having served as one of the Navy&#x27;s top aviators as he is tasked to train a set of graduates for a special assignment. Tom Cruise does wonderfully, no surprise there, reprising the role of Maverick, as he confronts the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears. Miles Teller, playing Bradley &#x27;Rooster&#x27; Bradshaw, comes in with a stellar performance, too.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>The Northman, dir. Robert Eggers - An epic revenge thriller, The Northman is beautiful and interesting, and is one of the most watchable films by Eggers. It follows Prince Amleth whose uncle brutally murdered his father when he was on the verge of becoming a man. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who raids the Slavic villages when he encounters a seer who reminds him of his vow—save his mother from his treacherous uncle, and ultimately avenge his father. </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Everything Everywhere All at Once, dir. Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert - Brilliant and overflowing with creativity and complexity, Everything Everywhere All At Once is a film that tackles the Asian family dynamics through a fresh set of eyes. Truthfully, it is full of layers and themes that it can get overwhelming at times, however the story remains cohesive with it being tied to the inherent mother-daughter relationship between Evelyn and Joy.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, dir. Rian Johnson - This Netflix film was a delight to watch and the fact that it has been Top 1 on the streaming app over the holidays is a testament to how successful Rian Johnson has been in creating a world wherein its characters come to life so vividly and show their true colors. The first film was an absolute success, and its sequel surpasses it in becoming a more riveting watch. Top performances by Daniel Craig and Janelle Monáe.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>The Banshees of Inisherin, dir. by Martin McDonagh - Colin Farrell reunites with co-star Brendan Gleeson and writer/director Martin McDonagh fourteen years after making dark comedy cult classic &#x27;In Bruges&#x27;. This film is a definite front-runner for awards—from Farrell for Best Actor, to Best Screenplay. </p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Babylon, dir. by Damien Chazelle - If you have a deep love for movies and Hollywood history, Babylon is a must-watch. Its mpressive and incredibly talented cast—Brad Pitt as Jack Conrad, Margot Robbie as Nellie LaRoy, Diego Calva as Manuel &#x27;Manny&#x27; Torres, to name a few—surely add reason for it earning a spot here. The &#x27;La La Land&#x27; director goes for over-the-top, in glorious fashion, telling the story of the rise and fall of several ambitious dreamers in 1920s Hollywood.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio - Out of the adaptations to this classic story to come out this year, Guillermo Del Toro&#x27;s is, by far, the best—and is perhaps the best animated film of 2022. Very emotional, truly enchanting—the film shows Pinocchio in his many (flawed) facets as he is on a quest to attain &#x27;humanity.&#x27;</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Avatar: The Way of Water, dir. by James Cameron - With a story set more than a decade after the first film. Avatar: The Way of Water goes back to the planet of Pandora as Jake Sully protects his newfound family and people from a familiar threat. Phenomenal underwater scenes and CGI, the film is an absolute thrill.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>The Menu, dir. Mark Mylod - The gourmet food world and its pretentiousness at times are satirized in this strange yet absorbing thriller. The Menu follows a young couple—played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult—as they travel to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where a world-famous chef, played by Ralph Fiennes, has prepared a lavish menu, with a lot of surprises.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>The Batman, dir. by Matt Reeves - The only superhero film to have made it to the list, The Batman is truly a fantastic film. Atmospheric and dark, each scene painting such a layered and interesting POV of Gotham. Robert Pattinson as DC&#x27;s Caped Crusader was a joy to watch, especially because many were skeptical of the casting choice. Needless to say, Reeves did an impeccable job—from casting and screenplay, to directing and editing.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Triangle of Sadness, dir. by Ruben Ostlund - Another film that is heavy on satire and carries with it an intriguing premise, Triangle of Sadness is a marvel of a film—and truly, wickedly funny. It is set on a cruise for the Uber-rich, which sinks catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.</p></div><div class="item-desc"><p>Happening, dir. by Audrey Diwan - While this powerful film is not &#x27;enjoyable&#x27;, it is one that is necessary and very socially relevant. Set in the early 1960s, Happening follows a bright young student Anne whose dreams of finishing her studies are shattered when she becomes pregnant.
