Watch the Trailer for ‘Away’ on Netflix
Here’s your first look at the thrilling, emotional space drama that stars esteemed actress Hilary Swank and is produced by Jason Katims, the visionary behind 'Friday Night Lights' and 'Parenthood'
Imagine being a woman commanding the human race’s first mission to Mars—all the thrills, fears, and sacrifices that come along with that, with the most difficult aspect being the longing you will have for family. This is the situation that Emma Green (Hilary Swank) finds herself in—reaching for the stars, literally, and a million miles from home—in the upcoming Netflix space drama, Away.
From the visionary who brought to life hit shows Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, Jason Katims, Away celebrates the incredible advancements humans can achieve and the personal sacrifices they must make along the way. As astronaut and former Navy pilot Emma Green prepares to lead an international crew on the first-ever mission to Mars, she must reconcile her decision to leave behind her husband, Matt Logan (Josh Charles), and teenage daughter Lex (Talitha Bateman) when they need her the most.
As the crew’s journey into space intensifies, their personal dynamics and the effects of being away from their loved ones become increasingly complex. Away is a show that teaches having faith, showing that sometimes personal sacrifices must be made to achieve great and wonderful things.
The five man crew is composed of Russian cosmonaut and engineer Misha Popov (Mark Ivanir), botanist Dr. Kwesi Weisberg-Abban (Ato Essandoh), Air Force fighter pilot Ram Arya (Ray Panthaki), and chemist and astronaut Lu Wang (Vivian Wu). Back home, Melissa Ramirez (Monique Curnen) is Emma’s Crew Support Astronaut, working as her liaison to earth, taking care of Lex and Matt in her absence.
Away premieres on Netflix on Friday, September 4.
