This Podcast Is a “Love Letter” To The Heritage of Filipino Music
‘Muni-Muni Stories’ has brought on artists like Celeste Legaspi, Joey Ayala, and The Company to talk about the importance of OPM
With each passing year, podcasts are only becoming bigger and bigger. There are podcasts on almost every topic imaginable: true crime, education, understanding the news cycle, self-help, financial help, ghosts stories and spooky tales, and of course, pop culture.
The Filipinas Heritage Library, a one-stop digital research center whose mission is to “spark and stoke interest in the visual, aural, and printed story of the Filipino,” has started a podcast about Filipino music after the success of the library’s curated playlists introduced during the first few months of quarantine.
Muni-Muni Stories, a “love letter” to the heritage of Filipino music, features 12 episodes in its first season, airing until March 2021, and presents iconic Filipino artists, from Joey Ayala to Celeste Legaspi. Recently, Legaspi came onto the podcast to talk about her song “Saranggola ni Pepe,” and Pia Magalona and Saab Magalona-Bacarro were also invited to talk about the life and legacy of the late Francis M.
This Friday, the episode will focus on Joey Ayala’s music and artistry, from his beginnings in the industry to the need to tell stories through writing. You also hear him discuss the anatomy of some his songs, like “Walang Hanggang Paalam,” “1896,” and “Karaniwang Tao.”
