Ballet Philippines Opens Its 49th Season With Alice Reyes' Production of Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana'

As the 49th season of Ballet Philippines gets underway next Friday, September 7, with a presentation of one of the most popular choral works of the classical repertoire, "Carmina Burana", all eyes will not only be directed to the stage, but will also be searching for a glimpse of National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes. For while she began Ballet Philippines in 1969 with the vision of professionalising dance in the Philippines, her presence this year marks her return as Artistic Director for the company.

With Antonio Cojuangco as Chairman and Kathleen Liechtenstein as the new President of the Board of Trustees, this 49th season will see a continuance of the tradition of Filipino dance excellence. Whether it be the Dance Scholarship Program, the Technical Training of Dancers, Barangay Ballet, these and other programs need our support. Support best created by watching the shows of this 49th season.

After Carmina Burana on September 7 to 9, we have Carmen and Other Dances October 5 to 7, Snow White November 30 to December 9, Romeo and Juliet February 15 to 24, and Tales of the Manuvu March 22 to 31.

Burana is Carl Orff’s magnum opus performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra on special nights. As such, it’s a unique fusion, of dance, song, and music, a rare treat that shouldn’t be missed.
