7 Uniquely Filipino Elements Found In Disney UK’s Emotional Christmas Ad

Chances are that while scrolling through your social media timelines today, you came across Disney UK’s newest Christmas ad, a three-minute animated short featuring a Filipino family: a grandmother and her granddaughter, as well as their holiday traditions through the years.

The video begins in 1940, during the grandma’s childhood, when her father gifts her a stuffed toy of Mickey Mouse, which she then passes onto her granddaughter, continuing all the way to when the granddaughter is all grown-up. We won’t say much—you’ll have to watch what happens for yourself—except that it’s emotionally devastating.

Most of all, because it features a Filipino family, a lot of uniquely Filipino elements also figure in the ad. Did you spot them all through your tears? (We almost didn’t!)
