The 'Mulan' Live-Action Remake Teaser Is Out, And We're Hoping It Brings Honor To The Original!
There is no doubt that a Disney renaissance is truly upon us.
With live-action remakes hitting—and about to hit!—theatres around the world, from Aladdin to The Little Mermaid and The Lion King (July 18 can’t come sooner!), our favorite Disney classics are being retold for fresh pairs of eyes as well as longtime fans. The most recent animated film to get a live-action remake is everyone’s favorite feminist princess, Mulan, starring Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei in the title role.

Today saw the first trailer for the film, and we could only hope that the retelling, slated to premiere in 2020, brings honor to the original, whose legacy still endures until today. Though this film’s treatment is more historical and action-packed as opposed to fantastical and musical, its soaring landscapes and fight scenes are enough to leave us breathless. While we're decidedly sad that Captain Shang and Mushu are left out in this film, that slow-motion shot of Mulan in the air is enough to keep us going.
