You Still Have A Chance To See Moscow Ballet 'La Classique' Perform 'Swan Lake' In Manila

The world-renowned Moscow Ballet “La Classique” is in Manila this month to perform the timeless favorite Swan Lake. However, fans and audiences were baffled after the gala performance last June 14 was cancelled and then announced to push through again a few moments after.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, the PR agency behind Swan Lake PH had issued a statement that it was cancelling its gala performance, reporting that: “In behalf of Royal Chimes Concerts and Events, organizer and producer of Swan Lake Philippines represented by Beth Mercado and Yuri Mercado, it is with the heavy heart that we were instructed by the organizer to announce the cancellation of tonight’s show.”

“Due to a major issue between the organizer and the Russian Group,” it added, “We are not privey [sic] to disclose the reason as our PR agency was merely engaged to promote this show. We are truly sorry and apologize to everyone. Thank you so much.”

Around an hour later, at 8:20 p.m., the same page had announced that “despite the earlier announcement of the cancellation, the gala performance tonight will proceed as scheduled.”

According to ABS-CBN News, a source, who is part of the joint project and who requested not to be named, said the “misunderstanding” stemmed from the alleged unsettled payments among the promoters.

Around 1,400 people—including socialite Tessa Prieto-Valdes—were expected to watch the opening performance. Unfortunately, some ticketholders had already left the venue after the first announcement. Later, organizers of the show had announced that those who had missed the performance that night can reschedule their tickets at their most convenient time.
