ABS-CBN Launches ‘Pantawid Ng Pag-Ibig,’ a Campaign To Help Families Hit By COVID-19
It aims to help local governments provide food and basic necessities to families who have been stricken hard by the quarantine
The enhanced community quarantine that’s being implemented throughout the entirety of Luzon has hit some of the most vulnerable communities—hard. Since March 17, there have been families who have been unable to have a steady source of income because of the lockdown. Because mass transportation has been suspended, some workers have been reported to walk as far as Parañaque to Tarlac. This is but one of the many stories of hardships that have emerged amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
To help ease the situation across Luzon, ABS-CBN launched a campaign yesterday called Pantawid ng Pag-ibig, which aims to raise funds by asking citizens to donate to the ABS-CBN Foundation. To jumpstart the initiative, the Lopez group is donating P100 million, according to ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak.
Katigbak spoke last night on TV Patrol to appeal to corporations to donate products which could be distributed among the poor. ABS-CBN, in addition, will be partnering with local government units who will pack and distribute the items to barangays across Luzon.
“Hangad po namin na walang magugutom sa panahong ito,” he said. “Tulad sa lahat ng ating mga pinagdaanan, ang magliligtas sa atin ay ang pagmamahal sa isa’t isa.”
