Today’s Tastemakers: ANC’s New Lifestyle Block

The ABS CBN News Channel (ANC) just launched its new lifestyle block, ANC-X last July 17, 2018, just in time for father’s day. This launch date is especially fitting because ANC-X aims to reach out to the modern man as he goes about his many roles—whether as CEO, out of office weekender, or as father—perhaps the most trying yet gratifying of role of all.

The shows lined up, both foreign and local, aim to present “life outside the boardroom,” in the words of ABS-CBN Lifestyle Ecosystem Head, Paolo Pineda. Topics include a wide array of contemporary pursuits:  culture and art, the drinking and dining scene, travel and motoring, and guides to urban living.

The first show to air was State of the Art, with host and actress Iza Calzado taking the viewer through the current art scene in the Philippines, beginning with its most ambitious project yet—the Manila Biennale, which was held last February in Intramuros.  Calzado goes off the beaten path and straight to the heart of Manila’s creative scene, from working behind-the-scenes at well-known galleries, to shining a light on fresh movements in local art.

Other shows include LSS: The Martin Nievera show, which presents the man’s unique, 360-degree way of seeing the world around him, in transit and on foot, on cobblestones and other terrain—all the while charming the audience with his signature style.

The line-up also includes Show Me the Market, which documents the adventures of co-hosts Joel Binamira and JP Anglo as they travel around the country, from region to region, and craft local dishes straight from town markets using today’s fresh cuts, fresh catch, and fresh harvest.

Imported titles currently include The Wine Show, which explores the terroirs of Europe and their signature wines. The show is hosted by The Crown’s Matthew Goode, as he and his famous friends trek across Europe looking for their signature vintages. These friends include Rome’s James Purefoy and Mathew Rhys, of The Americans’ fame.

As a companion show, there’s Booze Traveler, hosted by Jack Maxwell. The show provides an off-beat and in-depth look at drinking cultures across the continents.

Long-time ANC favorites also make a comeback in this stellar line-up. Tune in to Cityscape, hosted by Marie Lozano, and Green Living, for a peek into the Metro’s latest happenings and tips on eco-friendly city living. Join Captain Joy Roa (literally) on-air through the ever-borderless Asian Air Safari. Take a view behind the wheel with Paolo Abrera’s reviews of cars of all marque at Rev. And of course, Executive Class returns with veteran jetsetter David Celdran showing a holistic picture of luxury travel for the modern man, incorporating style, cuisine, and heritage.

It’s an exciting new line-up that’s sure to cater to the tastes of jet-setters, and people who specialize in the finer things in life.
