An Exclusive Sneak Peek At The Much-Awaited Chinese Box-Office ‘Us And Them’ Premieres On Netflix June 22
When US and Them premiered in China in April, it earned at least $45.5 million on its first day of release, and then tripling their box-office earnings in just two weeks to become the 4th highest grossing film of the year in China.
This is why when the whole world got wind of the beautiful film that’s gripping China, they clamored to get a taste of it—and Netflix has heard our prayers.
Swiftly, Netflix acquired the exclusive worldwide streaming rights to the Chinese blockbuster Us and Them, and is now set to release it on the streaming platform on June 22.
The story of the Chinese blockbuster was conceived the multi-talented actress, singer, and writer René Liu, who is directing and bringing her vision of the once short story into the big screen for the first time. Us and Them features the talents of Jing Boran as Lin Jianqing and rising female star Zhou Dongyu as Xiao Xiao.
Not to be confused with the 2017 Hollywood film of the same title, Us and Them follows the poignant story of two strangers, Lin Jian Qing and Xiao Xiao, who meet during the busy Lunar New Year period on their train ride home. Although Jian Qing is quickly charmed with Xiao Xiao’s boyish tendencies—her particular ease with playing cards and keeping her alcohol—he finds himself stuck in the friend zone because she was set to marry someone back in Beijing. Ten years after, they again meet and are reunited on a plane trip, and they go on to reflect on their journey and blossoming love over the years.
If you’re a fan of sublime love stories like The Before Trilogy: Sunrise (1995), Sunset (2004), Midnight (2013), you’ll surely feel at home with Us and Them. If the amount of support the Chinese have shown the film doesn’t give it enough credit, critics are also praising the emotional roller coaster that Us and Them will take you to. If you’re looking for a nice bittersweet love story to curl up to this weekend, grab a nice blanket, a tub of ice cream, and switch to Us and Them, premiering exclusively at netflix.com/usandthem.
