What’s The World Coming To? Celebs And Personalities Weigh In On #Zerotolerance

Nobody can deny that changes have definitely come, but they’re not the changes we were hoping they would be. Politics now, both in our country and elsewhere, have become polarizing instead of harmonizing and it’s the people who suffer the consequences.

The U.S. government recently came under attack with its zero-tolerance policy for illegal immigrants. The move was deemed cruel and un-American. The powerful imagse of children being taken away from their parents and sleeping in cage-like centers have caused a stir and good thing US President Donald Trump has ordered to cease its implementation of separating families for now.

Customs and Border Protection commissioner Kevin McAleenan has said that the zero-tolerance policy is still in effect, but not enforced, as they try to find a way to prosecute illegal immigrants without separating them from their families.

Hopefully with more influential people rallying against the cruelties, things will continue to take a turn for the better, and fast. Here are some celebrities and personalities who have expressed their outrage and are asking for changes to be made.

Laura Bush

I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.

Reese Witherspoon

Attn ALL U.S.Senators & U. S. Representatives: Please support the Keep Families Together Act. This atrocity must end. Please Support S. 3036

James Corden

This is just bullshit. The scars from being separated from your parents in such a manner will run so deep. No one will ever know the full effects of this, how much hurt is being caused.

Ellen DeGeneres

I don’t care what your politics are, we can’t be a country that separates children from their parents. Do something about this, here.

Bill Clinton

On this Father’s Day I’m thinking of the thousands of children separated from their parents at the border. These children should not be a negotiating tool. And reuniting them with their families would reaffirm America’s belief in & support for all parents who love their children.

Hillary Clinton

We should be a better country than one that tears families apart, turns a blind eye to women fleeing domestic violence, and treats frightened children as a means to a political end.

Chris Evans

Something tells me ‘separate but equal’ wasn’t scripted. What a meatball.

Anna Kendrick

Corey Lewandowski, you are a piece of sh*t.

John Legend

Seriously, fuck you. Reunite the families at the border and we can talk about father's day.

Maria Britton

Trump is so worried about gangs and criminals. A sure fire way to create gangs and criminals is to criminalize children and leave them with no parents, family or community. Yup. That’ll do it. #KeepFamiliesTogether

David Leavitt

Stop separating families NOW #MakeARuleIn4Words

J.K. Rowling

NGOs working to stop institutionalisation have been telling the world this for years. Separating children from their families means that many will simply vanish. Institutionalisation renders children highly vulnerable to abuse and trafficking. #KeepFamiliesTogether @lumos

Michelle Obama

Sometimes truth transcends party.

Stephen Colbert

One thing I know for sure: no one on the right side of history has ever had to nitpick what the definition of “cage” is.

My Dad grew up in poverty, got his first job when he was 10, and is now among the most respected lawyers in his field. When my brothers and I were growing up, our Dad commuted an hour and half to work every day and still coached our soccer teams and helped out the stage crew on every one of my shows (he put himself through college and law school as a stage hand- long live Buster). He has the hugest Leo heart and is thrillingly smart- also, he is a bad-ass who doesn’t take $&@! from anyone. He taught me how to use my brain, to try and make the world a better place, and told me that I should never lie so that way I would never need to remember anything (it’s true). Simply put, he is my hero. My Dad and I- not to mention my entire family- are disgusted and rocked to our core by the current administration’s shocking decision to separate asylum seeking immigrant families, the consequence of which is creating orphans with living parents. In appreciation of my father, and in honor of all the fathers torn from their children because of this brutal policy, I am making a donation to @americansforimmigrantjustice in my father’s name (link in my bio). I invite you to join me and make a donation of any size in your father’s name. Also, for those of you who are going to slam me for politicizing Father’s Day- I’m Jerry Hathaway’s daughter and I speak my mind: you are on the wrong side of history.
