Ternocon Palaro Bench SM Malls 2025

Last October 8, SM Supermalls, Bench, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) came together and brought us the latest special edition of Ternocon, Ternocon: Palaro.Ternocon: Palaro was held at the FIFA-certified MOA Sky Football Pitch, which was reimagined into a runway that celebrated Filipino culture and craftsmanship. The football pitch  harmonized the Philippine culture of palaro and art while bringing together different communities, reflecting SM’s “All for You” motto.This year’s theme, “Palaro,” celebrated the energy of play, the beauty of diversity, and the freedom of creative movement, brought to life through Filipiniana designs that fused heritage elements with a lively, sport-inspired edge.Six forward-thinking Filipino designers were chosen to bring this theme to life through their unique point of views. Ternocon featured the pioneers Hannah Adrias, Glyn Alley Magtibay, Jo Ann Bitagcol, Len Cabili, Renz Reyes, and Carl Jan Cruz.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17604024140115.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Hannah Adrias took a more retro route in the creation of  her collection for Ternocon: Palaro. Her pieces were the embodiment of playfulness and fun through her application of colorblocking, styling with colorful ribbons, and masterful fabric manipulation. </div>Hannah Adrias offered a modern take on Filipiniana with silhouettes inspired by the bold retro aesthetics of the 1980s, while Glyn Alley Magtibay’s Intramurals drew from the energy of campus athletics, weaving in native textures and materials. <div> </div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17604024813547.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Glyn Alley Magtibay was inspired with a vision of fashion that moves with both purpose and style, giving rise to Intramurals. The collection fuses sportswear materials with traditional Filipino textiles, such as that of Yakan, creating a modern expression of heritage and individuality. <img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1760402582915Jo Ann Bitagcol.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Jo Ann Bitagcol brought her own unique perspective to the runway as shown by her use of large loosely layered silhouettes that juxtaposed the rigidity of the Filipiniana sleeves. Her collection used a wide spectrum of color, various prints, construction techniques, and artful use of a varying array of fabrics. Jo Ann Bitagcol infused Liga with an air of nostalgia and relaxed sophistication, and Len Cabili of Filip+Inna celebrated the country’s enduring basketball culture through Basketball Parabola. </div><div> </div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17604026652938.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Len Cabili’s Parabola takes its name from the graceful arc traced by a basketball in motion, a symbol that inspired the collection’s design language. Drawing from the sport’s deep connection to Filipino heritage, each piece incorporates the curve motif, reflected in both its structure and the fluidity of its movement</div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17604027049339.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Renz Reyes brought Ternocon: Palaro to life through his collection’s use of sculptural shapes, refined embroidery, and textured finishes. Each piece reflects movement and precision, capturing the rhythm of sport. Through layered silhouettes and fluid 3D forms, the collection reimagines the terno as a symbol of strength, grace, and contemporary elegance.</div>Renz Reyes gave classic forms a streamlined, sport-inflected twist, and Carl Jan Cruz reinterpreted archival Bench shirts and found fabrics into witty, wearable statements of Filipino artistry.<div> </div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/176040274175610.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Carl Jan Cruz reminisced on personal memories, which were reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. Using found materials such as archival Bench T-shirts, and locally made pieces, the collections featured techniques like dyeing, crinkling, patching, and appliqué to renew existing textiles while honoring their roots.</div>Amidst the expressive and innovative designs, the show seeped in palaro through the performance of a marching band, a cheerleading squad, and even a referee who encouraged the crowd to cheer on the talented designers of the night.
