Alongside his wife and collaborator, Celestina Maristela Ocampo, he built a retail empire that included influential brands such as Sari-Sari, Anonymous, i2i New York, Manila House, and other ventures. Together, they helped shape the Filipino retail landscape through the ’90s and early 2000s. Their spaces became destinations for a generation discovering new ideas about fashion, design, and contemporary living.</p><div><br/></div><p>Now, after more than 15 years away from the mall-driven retail world, Ricco is returning to what has always been one of his greatest passions. But this time, he is doing it on a smaller, more personal scale. I just wanted to do something about retail because it&#x27;s always been my passion to curate, to research, to look for anything that really fancies my taste.”</p><div><br/></div><p>That instinct to curate is at the heart of Previously Yours. Unlike a conventional vintage shop built around volume, the store is not attempting to represent every era, category, or aesthetic. Ricco is interested in the things that catch his eye—pieces with character, craftsmanship, history, or simply something that makes him stop and look. Think independent contemporary designers such as <strong>Dries Van Noten</strong>, <strong>Jill Sander</strong>, and<strong> Junya Watanabe</strong>, to luxury behemoths like <strong>Chanel</strong>, <strong>Prada</strong>, and <strong>Christian Louboutin</strong>.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17878831824724.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></span></span></div><p>At the same time, Previously Yours has become a destination for people looking to part with pieces from their own collections. “In terms of volume, we have three to four people calling every week, they want to bring their clothes and shoes,” he says. “Right now, we have a whole room of unopened luggages because people have so much to sell.”</p><div><br/></div><p>While fashion provides much of the store&#x27;s inventory, Previously Yours is ultimately a collection of objects: art, furniture, accessories, and other pieces that have lived before and can continue to live beyond their original owners. “We&#x27;re talking about an <strong>Andy Warhol</strong><strong> </strong>that is from a collector or a chair or furniture,” Ricco says.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17878831970515.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div><p>A piece of furniture can have as much visual and cultural resonance as a garment. A work of art can alter the atmosphere of a room. There is a larger cultural shift behind this renewed interest in the past. In a world where fashion and design are increasingly driven by speed and constant novelty, vintage offers another way of thinking about value. An object does not become irrelevant simply because it is no longer new. Its age can become part of its appeal. For Ricco, that means treating vintage with a certain degree of respect.</p><div><br/></div><p>Having spent more than 40 years looking at fashion and objects, he has developed an eye informed by travel, street culture, and decades of observing how people dress and live. But perhaps most importantly, he has remained curious. “Maybe in my old age, I&#x27;d like to share the taste that I&#x27;ve acquired through research, travel, looking at streetwear, and just allowing my curious mind to go around,” he says. </p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17878832066513.png" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div><p>After decades of building retail businesses, it is telling that Ricco’s return begins with something as simple as enjoyment. There is no emphasis on scale, no stated ambition to build another sprawling retail empire. Instead, there is the pleasure of looking, finding, arranging, and sharing.</p><div><br/></div><p>Perhaps that is the most inspiring idea behind Previously Yours.
