Filipino shoe designer and LGBTQ+ advocate Brian Tenorio is an indelible part of the local fashion industry. Today, he passes away at 42. A now-erased post by the Communication Design Associate of the Philippines (CDAP), of which he is was a co-founding board member for, was the official announcement of his passing.
Brian’s most noted work is helping with the recognition of our world-renowned Marikina shoes through his work in his namesake label Tenorio Manila which was launched in 2004. "Brian Tenorio was an innovator who devoted years of his life in promoting local brands and businesses,” says Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo. “As we Filipinos struggle to survive this pandemic, may we all be inspired by the passion, creativity, innovation, and dedication of Brian,” she continues, also mentioning the gap Brian’s left in reviving our shoe industry.
His legacy goes on though, having spread his roots in many neighboring industries and services. He was also the CEO and Founder of KapeTayo Coffee, bannering local coffee from all over the region and chair of Designers for Development. His most recent endeavor though was Mindcare Club launched in 2019 which offers online mental health counseling. He definitely was not just a man of fashion but also for compassion.
As Brian mentioned on an Instagram post from last year, his goal for for 2020 is in breaking and destroying all barriers to love and loving. He vowed to “say the things I need to say, to love more the people I love, and to give back to God, to others, and to the universe.” As if he hasn’t done so already. Brian Tenorio, a silent megaforce of our nation will definitely be missed.
