Fashion Designer Sofie Borromeo Is Putting The Country On The Map With Her Nature-Inspired Collection

The journey for a fashion designer is ripe with peaks and valleys of achievements juxtaposed with challenges, and while Sofie Borromeo has traversed a variety of roles in fashion, leaving her corporate life and beginning “Sofie.B” has transformed her life. A butterfly captures a similar metamorphosis, and this was Sofie’s inspiration for her fashion show this March 7 at Blackbird at the Nielson Tower.

Garden with Wings brings together the metaphoric to the literal—uncertainty of what a butterfly would look like form the design on its wings and colors; to the fleeting happiness an encounter with a butterfly can bring—these are elements that will be highlighted in the show. With a 20-piece collection highlighting the silhouettes inspired by the past and the present, a nod to both classic and modern. Likewise, the collection will showcase a range of botanical prints, beautiful bold prints, textures, and colors.

Sofie’s journey began in 2015, when she started the label, armed with her extensive experience in three international fashion houses, as a fashion buyer for both the women’s department store of SM Retail and British label JOSEPH. Her education in SCAD (The Savannah College of Art and Design) in Georgia, paired with her graduate degree in Luxury Fashion Management in SCAD Hong Kong likewise cemented her skillset and vision.

Partnering with the government-funded TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority), Sofie developed a community that formed her production team, and through training, prepared them for different aspects of the fashion industry.

Over time, the brand has expanded to childrens wear, bridal, and custom-made designs; a result of a six-month residency with one of Hong Kong’s prominent PR firms, Bonvivant & Bellavita. Sofie.B gained international renown with that, following a lot of press from mainland China, local Hong Kong publishing companies, and even Womens Wear Daily (WWD).
